Have tried using the different drivers AMBICOM GPS-CF/NMEA 0183v2 4800 but without any success, does anyone have any suggestions.

Hi john
I have been using the Rikaline GPS-6021-X6 units since last Christmas and I'm on my 5th one due to the other 4 packing up.
On the earlier unit I had I used TomTom Navigator GPS in the top box and Leadtek GPS9534 in the bottom box of the TomTom GPS screen as the earlier units firmware were seen as Leadtek GPS9534.
On more recent units I have still used TomTom Navigator GPS in the top box and Socket CF+_Serial_Port_Card_Rev2 in the bottom box of the TomTom GPS screen.
When you say it “It finds the satellites but i never get a lock.” Do you mean in the TomTom GPS screen that you get grey bars as it picks up satellites but they do not turn red ?? If that’s the case then persevere as I have had it take up to 15 minutes to get it’s first fix on a couple of units. After that it’s normally a minute or 2 when I fire it up in the mornings. I did have 1 Rikaline GPS-6021-X6 which never picked up more than 2 satellites after a couple of hours , needless to say that 1 went back.
To be honest I have had so many problems with the Rikaline GPS-6021-X6 units that a few weeks ago I bought a SysOnChip CF Plus unit and it’s been as good as gold. I keep the Rikaline GPS-6021-X6 now as a back up in case the SysOnChip CF Plus unit fails.

If you dont mind me asking where did you buy your syson unit from

Hi John
I got my SysOnChip CF Plus from http://www.globalpositioningsystems.co.uk
@ £109.94 with free delivery.
There were some concerns with lag on early firmware, but I asked globalpositioningsystems to check the serial # on the unit they were sending to me and it was a later firmware and has performed very well.
The serial # of my SysOnChip CF Plus is 0312266176.
Regards

There were more problems with earlier models, but the lag is still there depending on how many good sats you're getting data from. If to obtain a 3D fix it's having to correlate data from a lot more sats that under normal conditions would be discarded then this can give positional errors and perceived lag. |
