TT Traffic external aerial

Is there a way to create an external aerial for tomtom traffic rds/tmc reciever?

i have the new tt one v3 with traffic (the rds reciever) but its very hit and miss to whether it picks up a signal.

As soon as i leave my vehicle, taking the TT outside i pick up a signal no problem at all.

Surely there should be some type of external aerial that would give better reception

I've now managed to create my own 'external aerial' which gives me much better reception than before Laughing

Its very rudementary but (for me anyway) it does work!

Basically all i've done is took the long lenght of the aerial, attached it to a thin stick (actually a long BBQ squewer) and stuck it on the top of my van. The rest of wire passes through the door and the sucker for the fat bit sticks on my A-Pillar so i can still have the tomtom in the bottom corner of the windscreen. I find to get the best signal it need to be around 18inches above the top of the vehicle.

It does still take a good 5-10mins to pick up a signal, but so far with my journeys from Birmingham to Oxford it stays green all the way, when before having it inside stuck in numerous places i would catch a signal for around 10mins of a 1hr30min journey.

I know it looks crap, but atleast i am now recieving the traffic information, and can now only complain about the quality of that info.

Come on tomtom make a proper aerial Rolling Eyes

I'm trying to do a similar thing but luckily my car (VW Golf Mk5) has 2 antenna feeds installed. I've also bought a FAKRA antenna socket suitable for the car. I have the latest tomtom tmc dongle with the long trailing wire after the bubble receiver unit so I'm wondering it it's a simple case of chopping the end of this wire and soldering it onto the antenna socket then connecting it to the spare antenna feed?
