Don't get excited! I doubt that SPECS zones are due to end anytime soon.
I often travel the A14 route between Huntingdon and Cambridge which must have around eight or nine sets of cameras. That certainly puts paid to any thought of lane changing. However, on this route I do know where the last camera is.
My problem arises when I'm on unfamiliar turf. I could unknowingly pass the last SPECS camera in a zone and be sticking to 70 for ever more. Is there already, or if not is there scope, for a database entry to specify the last camera in a zone?
Using voice announcements it would be quite nice to hear "End of Specs zone". |

It's only feasible on devices that are direction aware though? Otherwise you'd get an end of specs zone as you entered! _________________ Darren Griffin |

Could it not be named:
"Start/Finish of Average Speed Zone"?
We would know if it applied, as we would just have passed a Specs camera. _________________ Regards

The speed camera database is not there to allow users to speed, the best indication as to when to put your foot down is AFTER you pass the road sign allowing you to accelerate back to the legal limit.
I guess you could constuct a custom POI file to go on the device to do this but I wouldn't trust it as Specs are predominantly in roadworks and have a habit of being moved, is it really worth the chance to save what could amount to seconds in journey duration - Mike |
