It all got away from me. I had a GO700, aGO710 and then got a GO720. Fine, wonderful, so I decided I could do without the 700, so Vera gave me a few shillings and it was donated to her son-in-law for his taxi.
Then the 720 went wrong and went back. The second, third, fourth and fifth also went wrong. Then the 710 went wrong in between 720s #5 and #6. It went back to Maplins and they then said it was beyond repair so I was due a refund for the full price I'd paid a year before. I like the 720, so I used the refund to get one, plus a credit of £55. That was #6. In the meantime Halfords recommended a Nuvi 660FM as being as good as and doing the same as the 720, so I accepted that, plus a refund gift voucher for £30. But it was awful. So it went back and I got another 720, plus a refund for £20. So I've got two. To be honest, I'd probably be happy to swap one of them for another GO700.
A 920 doesn't seem like much in the way of variety. We're getting a bit old to be thinking of touring North America unless I win the lottery and have complete free time and cash to waste - we only have so much holiday entitlement a year and USA is a long way to go for it. I've just come up for another 50 quid on the Premium bonds, but that won't provide a lot of leisure.
Neither of the present 720s is perfect, but to be honest, I'm getting tired of the to-ing and fro-ing. #6 is the best for me, but for incoming phone calls, the caller gets their voice echoed badly.

What is it about the Go 700 that you love so much?
Also, the 920 has new features like EPT and a good bluetooth remote! |

The GO700 worked! It did me 3,500 miles round Europe last year. The only thing it failed to find in Switzerland was a motorway service station with motel (but that's because they don't do motels in them!) And it had a wonderful speaker which I could hear. None of the models since then have had the sound.
The bluetooth remote for the 920 (and 720 and 520)? Have you got one? Tom Tom website haven't and never have had one. When I still had the 700 and 710, I also had a wireless remote, which worked on them both (so I had to switch one off if I wanted to use it!!). I still have that remote, but no device for it to work on. So I'd like another 710 or 700 (maybe prefer a 500 to the 700) to go with the 720, and use remotes on them both.

I see why you like it now....
Well then, try ebay for an older model and sell your extra 720. You can get refurbs at buy it now prices of £160, perhaps less if you bid successfully.
I found THIS there as an example.
The 920 comes with the remote in the box as standard.

In my experience with the tomtom one units, the old classic and even the newer one 3rd edition used to stick very heavily onto the major roads even when it sometimes meant a much longer route. Now with the 7.161 and 7.162 update, i find that the choice of roads now is much more sensible when it comes to routing. For example, from the Tesco where i`m based in kingston park, newcastle, to get to anywhere near the coast or tynemouth or north shields, my tomtom used to route me north on the a1 to the a19 junction then east then south on the a19. now, it will sometimes take me directly east to join up with the a19 south and then down to my delivery. Not a major issue if you know the area and the traffic spots, but it now takes a slightly more direct approach to the routes than it used to do.

yes its about 2miles from newcastle airport, on the main A1 road junction with the A697 road to the airport!

They should resurrect the feature they used to have (so I'm told), namely allow you to set your speeds for different road types.

You could also block roads/section you didn't want TomTom to route you on without affecting others.

That was only ever on the PDA Navigator versions prior to Version 5.
But I agree. The Avoid Area was a brilliant idea.
