|
|
Is there anyone who has bought a TT GO 720T unit that included the latest map of Western Europe? Yes, I know TomTom offers something called Latest map guarantee for 30 days, but based on the problems a lot of people on this forum have had with this updating I would prefer if my unit had the latest map (and the latest app v7.161) straight out of the box.
So, if someone can respond yes to the question above, could you please let me know the serial number (or at least the first numbers of the serial no) of the unit? This way I can check if my retailer has the latest batch of the units.
Another thing, is there by chance anyone who has tested the hands-free calling function of TT GO 720 with a Sony Ericsson W850i phone? The phone doesn't appear in the phone compatibility list, but that doesn't prove that it's not working, right?
Thanks in advance |

My SE P1i doesn't appear in the compatibility list for anything but bluetooth works and it also sends/receives texts as well, unusually. SE phones are normally pretty good. |

I have used occasionally SE K610i for SMS (sending/reading) and TomTom Plus services without problems. For calling I use bluetooth headset. _________________ Harry (TT GO720T) |

That sounds promising.
In relation to my first question, did you update the application and maps via TT HOME or did you receive the unit with this configuration? In the first case did you experience any problems with the upgrading?
You are referring to an application with version 7.210 (8555/071025) OS:2314. I thought v7.161 was the latest application. I'm getting a bit confused here.
How is the RDS-TMC receiver working for you in Finland? Are you happy with the reception and the implementation of the traffic function inside TomTom?
One last question, are you able to use the text-to-speech functionality at all in Finland? Finish is, just like Swedish, not supported in the unit. What happens if you set the language to English, will the unit pronounce the street names at all or is the text-to-speech functionality switched off automatically? _________________ TomTom GO720T: App ver 8.351(9982/090518), OS:315187, GPS v1.20, Boot 5.5120

There is/was a v7.210.
I have it and it seems to be working fine, but Home is no longer offering it to people.
I have been trying to find out if anyone has ever got a definitive statement about it from TomTom Support. (not much luck so far - one person says that is what a TomTom tech. person told him, but nothing in writing yet).

Dear Mr ******,
Thank you for contacting TomTom Customer Support
Currently the latest map guarantee is not available for 720 users. Currently we do not know when this will be made available so the only thing that I can recommend is that you try entering in your code periodically over the next few weeks to see if the update is available.
Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience.
With Best Regards

What kind of crap is this??? If there are technical problems with the service they have to add the map to my account so that I can download it. What happens if the service becomes available "in a few weeks" when the latest map guarantee has expired? |

They add it, if you ask for it regularly. I did it again and again two weeks.
If your first complaint about missing service/old map is within the 30 days of the first use, you have a right to get the latest map. _________________ Harry (TT GO720T) |

According to the response I got, the map you have been given is not the final one that will be issued to 720 owners - unless of course they are just fobbing me off (not that TomTom have any history of that!)
Response (Terence R. (UK)) 30/11/2007 12.42 PM
Dear Vaughan,
Thank you for contacting TomTom Customer Support.
Unfortunately I cannot offer you the map as a download to your account.
This request was made specifically to our 2nd Level Team, however this map is still in development and should become available shortly as you know.
The map that my colleague has managed to add to other accounts is not the same map that will be provided via TomTom HOME.
This is a similar map which is the same version, howvever the map available under Latest map Guarantee will have more detail than the current map, hence why it is taking a bit longer than expected to be available.
Should you have further questions or suggestions, please let us know.
You can also speak to us directly on the number below.

That response seems weird to me! How come they are selling the 710 map on their web site if it's not finished yet? I find it hard to believe that the map provided via latest map guarantee would be of higher quality than the one sold on their web site!!! _________________ TomTom GO720T: App ver 8.351(9982/090518), OS:315187, GPS v1.20, Boot 5.5120

I have quereied this response, but on past experience with the RDS-TMC receiver I don't expect to get a sensible answer.
Unless they are giving a duff map out just to keep people quiet!

As Hartsa stated, if you keep on at them as I did they do eventually add it to your account and it becomes available as an update. It showed up on mine yesterday morning but ignored it as I was going to be away for 24 hours. Downloaded it this afternoon,
15:07 Started download.
15:46 Finished download
15:46 Install/Copying started
15:58 Finished.
Now running as per sig below. _________________ Graham.

....and maybe, as Andy V. says that means you get the duff one to keep you quiet!
When I kept hassling them, there was a definite edge of irritation in their later replies:
Quote: | That is indeed correct. You can purchase the map on our website. However we are dealing here with thousands of maps to be assigned to the existing customers for the latest map guarantee. This is something that will take a little longer. As explained previously, the map will be available to you in Tom Tom HOME once everything has been resolved. |

In order to install the update to the Go rather than the SD card it was necessary to deleted the Western Europe map entirely to get enough free space. I did that manually, after the update on reconnecting to Home 2 it did a MapShare update and a POI one which put all the POI correction I had done back in, but had to replace all the Pocketgpsw POI speed related files and .ogg's as well as POI's I had added.
Also had to go in and remake the corrections to the M40 J15 but the A34 was already done.
