|
|
The regulars here will know that the way to get your Favourites and Home Location has always been to copy the MapSettings.cfg file from your old map folder into the new one.
However, when I did that a few months ago from a Go300 to my new Go720, the TTS voices and speech recognition stopped working. At first, I wasn't convinced that what I'd done was the problem, but over the last few weeks I've heard a few more people having the same issue.
Now today, I copied a MapSettings.cfg file from a Go700 v6 to the same machine with new maps and v7, and it wouldn't boot past the splash screen. Putting the "proper" version of the file back cured it straight away.
So, it seems the MapSettings.cfg files are not compatible across versions anymore. |

I've had exactly the same issue with copying Mapsettings.cfg fro a v6 map to a v7 map - running on the current v7 software on my TTG700.
Very frustrating as I've now lost all of my favorites |

If you open the old MapSettings File with POIEdit, you should be able to identify the locations of your Favourites.
Just delete everything else there, mainly Recent Destinations, and save as a TT OV2 File. If you see a duplication, you can remove either.
Copy this to your Map Folder as a Favourites POI. _________________ Richard

Too late to do that if he's already removed the old map to make way for the new one.... (unless he uses Oldboy's suggestion)
Thanks for the heads up on POI Edit, Oldboy. I'd forgotten that it can open the .cfg file now.
I was in exactly that situation with my work colleague's new map on a Go700.
We had removed the old map already, and (too late) I confirmed my suspicions that copying MapSettings.cfg doesn't work any more.
Popped it into POI Edit and Bingo! One happy workmate |

Sadly its not just the favs that go, im sure all my POI sound and distance settings went along with it.
Found that out when i got my TT720 back in August.
It is really bad that they didnt keep this compatability between versions.
Thanks |

Think of it from their point of view though... If they invent new functionality (like using the text to speech voices as POI warnings with your own message!) then its a bit hard to keep the file completely compatible with old versions where it didn't exist. |

you seem to have to fire up the tomtom via your computer first - this happened to me when i copied my favourites over - not getting past the splash screen. then i remembered a forum thread from ages ago - connect it back up to your computer, use the control your tt option, and it seems to work after that fine! |

He must have had a load of stuff on the 700 - that hard disk was big enough for me to have three Western Europe maps on it, IIRC (definitely two). _________________ Dennis

Sorry, forgot to add that I'm using the MapSettings.cfg that I brought from my 700, to my 710, to my 720. Just copied the map v705 cfg file to the v710 map tonight. _________________ Dennis
