You certainly do not need to buy both maps.
To all intents and purposes, the UK part of the Western Europe map is identical to the UK map.
There are some tiny differences, but nothing to worry about in normal use.
I only have the Western Europe map on my Go720 and it works exactly like the UK map on my old Go300. |
Ah, great, thanks for that. _________________ Tony

I take issue with that, I did read his post properly. In fact he was telling me nothing new because I had already read the information he linked but as I explained I felt the information posted by TT was potentially ambiguous hence my post. Furthermore, IMO he did get ratty, because he could have given me the simple information he finally gave me without going off on one (if you are wondering what I mean by that, well platitudes about "teaching a man to fish" etc. were not called for when I had indeed already been that route). If I had been in possession of the same information I would have replied with my first post to someone else asking the same question. _________________ Tony

Just to satisfy a curious old man - When did you buy the UK map to install on your GO910? _________________ Dennis

No it didn't. The 910 came with EUROPE map, of which UK is part. "Upgrade your map" is simply getting a later version of the same map. Do you mean to say you didn't know your map was seamless European map, enabling you to navigate door to door from UK to anywhere in the Europe map area without changing maps? _________________ Dennis

No I didn't. I came to the 910 from TT on an iPaq and I had bought the maps separately for that. I suppose if I also spent my life frequenting this forum like certain others I wouldn't have made such a foolish idiotic basic mistake. _________________ Tony

You've owned it for nearly a year and even when you bought it you didn't know what you were buying? Andy hasn't got one, I haven't got one, but we knew about the map and assumed you did too. The very first response you got, four minutes after you posted your question, was to say that Quote: | The Western Europe and the Western & Central Europe Maps cover the UK. |
Here's a secret - it has three other maps - for Canary Islands, Guam and North America. Normally when you first start it, you have to CHOOSE which of the four maps you want to use, together with other stuff, like what language you want to use. None of the first map choices is GB or UK.
Here's a free tip. Do a complete backup, using Windows Explorer, not the TT Home program's own backup offering.
Now excuse me while I get out more, instead of frequenting this website to learn and share. _________________ Dennis

I already knew that, because as I keep trying to say I looked at the TT web site before I posted the question. However, as I also keep saying the TT web site is not exactly clear about whether the inclusive map is as detailed as the specific one, because past experience has shown me this is not always true.
I know it said door to door but I wasn't sure if that was TT market speak for town to town, I was just looking for clarification, didn't seem an unreasonable request at the time. _________________ Tony

The request may not be unreasonable - the manner certainly is, especially when you're asking for help from people who are giving it out of the goodness of their hearts, in their own time, and from their own experience and from what they've learnt on this forum.
If they didn't spend so much time on this forum they wouldn't have built up the knowledge that people like you come here to make use of. _________________ Anita

Let's all have a cup of decaf and chill....
Forums and the like strip out all the subtle signals of normal conversation, leading to confrontation where none is needed.
I think we are all in agreement really and the question is answered, shall we move on? |

I do plenty of helping people on other forums around the internet and when I can answer a question I do so with the information I have without rolling eyes and talking about teaching people to fish.
I apologise whole heartedly if my manner seemed unreasonable, came from frustration. Let's leave it there. _________________ Tony
