I have a Go 300 which I am about to sell. I have installed WE maps on it.
Can I use those maps on my 520 which of course only has UK maps?
and, if so, will there be enough room in the memory for the WE maps? _________________ Bazzza

Yes they will work.
Why not just leave them on the card and run them from there? The 520 should be able to access maps from both the internal memory and an SD card.
You'll want to remove the software from the card though, or the 520 will try to boot from it. |

Thanks Andy. I don't actually have the maps on an SD card, I downloaded them but I guess I could put them on a card and use them as you suggest. Currently the SD card in the unit is almost full of mp3 files but it's no problem to lose them on the few occasions that I need the WE maps. _________________ Bazzza

If you've got them installed on a Go300 you MUST have them on an SD card....
The only problem with putting that card straight into your 520 is that it will also have the old 300 software on it and the 520 will try to run it.
So... you either need to copy just JUST the WE map folder from that card onto another one (if you have one)...
OR you could temporarily move the system files off the Go300 card.
(COPY everything that is not in a folder on the card to somewhere safe on your PC. Only when you are sure it has copied safely, then delete the same files from the card). Then you can try the card in the 520. |

Thanks. The original card from the 300 was full with just the UK maps on it so I have just ordered another 2GB SD card so that I can do what you suggest. I wondered if there might be some anti-copying device on the WE Maps?? _________________ Bazzza

No "anti-copying" protection as such. But plenty of "anti-using-it-on-more-than-one-unit-at-once" protection.
Like all maps it will be linked to one tomTom, but you can change which TomTom it is linked to by inputting the map's "product code" (which should have been sent with it when you downloaded it) and the Go's "device code" into a form at www.ttcode.com. This should give you an "activation code" to type into the TomTom if / when it asks you for one after you switch to the new map in Change preferences/Manage maps/switch map.
Note: this is the "old" TomTom protection method. It is now done rather differently through your email address registered with 'Home' but I think it will still use this method with an old map. |

|
|
I've just bought a 520 to replace TTN6 on my Axim. I'm off on a booze cruise this weekend so I thought I'd copy my old 6.75 France map onto a 512Mb SD card. And it worked a treat after validating. Now, I left the card in, docked the 520 and ran HOME. It asked me which device to use and I picked "Memory Card". It then offered to install all of the usual voices AND (here's the bit I wasn't expecting) it went through the Mapshare updates. I would have thought that I would have needed the V7 maps to do this. Obvously, I've got no way of knowing what the map corrections are and if they have "taken". But, the POI updates appear to have worked (at least, the correction files are there, e.g. CA7311.ov2).
Does anyone know if this is expected behaviour?
Cheers

Yes, Mapshare works with map versions 6.75 and above. |
