|
|
I am in the market for a decent sat nav which will give me good navigation and camera database.
I'm led to believe that the Tom Tom one XL is a good navigation device, and thereafer I can download a camera database from here.
From Amazon there is a choice of:
Tom Tom ONE XL Great Britain
&
Tom Tom ONE XL With UK Mapping & Safety Cameras
Which one do I need? Can I put the camera database on either? Or do I need the Safety Camera model?
Many thanks for any help

You can put the PGPSW Cameras on either. _________________ Tim |

Thanks very much for your help.
I've actually been going around in circles trying to find a decent unit which will offer both navigation and good camera database, this seems like a perfect solution.
The XL Great Britain is £80 cheaper than the one with the camera database, plus I have heard that PGPSWSCD is better than the Tom Tom anyway!
Very glad I came accross this site... - lets hope it all works as planned, - cheers. |

Tim.. do you know what the difference is?
They both sound like exactly the same model to me; same hardware same maps, and as far as I'm aware you get a demo version of the TT speed cameras on it.
Have they done one with a Speed cam subscription built in? But even if they have, it should only be £19 more.
Also the TT website ONLY shows two versions - the Europe and the Regional/UK. |

Errrr, quite frankly, 'no' is the answer. But since you can put the SC database on any TomTom device (possibly barring the Duo) produced thus far, I thought I was safe in answering as I did. £80 difference is an awful lot, though! For that amount extra I'd expect a full year's SC and GPRS Traffic and a pretty girl to demonstrate it for me! I'd go for the cheap one or enquire about the differences. _________________ Tim |

could the 2 units be from 'amazon marketplace'? not actually amazon itself but traders selling through amazon? could explain the difference in the names?

The two items you mention are the same thing. The first is from Amazon themselves and the second from a third-party. If I was looking at the right item for the second on the list, it's the same as the first - they both include a scratch card giving you one TomTom camera update. Personally. I wouldn't pay the extra. _________________ Gerry

Shocking.
I wonder how many poor customers have thought to themselves "I need the camera database" and paid the £80 extra.

You are better off with the database from this site in terms of accuracy and frequency of updates, with a subscription price of £19 per year the £80 difference is quite considerable, this is not down to TomTom but some retailers attempting to profit from an unsuspecting public by the looks of it - Mike |

Thanks for the reassurance. I actually ordered the "cheaper" XL after Tim's first post, - should be arriving today |

Hi there
mine has got cameras installed on it also! No traffic though.
I'm very happy with it, - amazing bit of kit, and very reliable thus far (done 440 miles this weekend to unknown places), - but i haven't had the time to download the pocketGPS cam DB yet.
I would like to install some different voices for a laugh.. - just looking into that now, - not sure if i need a memory card or not.....hmmmmm..... |

Can anyone who's got a ONE XL Regional/UK tell me what it has for storage, please?
There seems to be two versions, one with internal flash memory (like the'Europe' version) and an empty SD slot, and one where the maps are supplied on SD card (no flash memory?)
Any clarification (especially with the model number) would be great.
The one with 512MB is a 4S00.007 I believe. |

Hi Andy,
I have the tomtom XL Great Britain, as linked above. The documentation refers to a hard drive, but i can't hear anything so presume it contains flash memory. There is space for an SD card, and no card supplied.
Plugged into my laptop, the Properties tell me that I have about 270mb of space and out the box 215mb is already being used.
The model number of mine is 4S00.007
Cheers |

Mine was originally bought as a UK+RoI. It has no flash but came with a 240MB SD card with the map etc loaded on it. Model number 4S00.006.
Sounds like the newer UK versions have flash memory so are not supplied with a SD card - the same as, I believe, the original Europe XLs were. _________________ Gerry
