|
|
I have just purchased a Mitac P350, I have installed Tomtom 6 navigation software but it is unable to pick up any sats.
It is configured for: other NMEA, baud rate 4800, and the GPS_COM is selected. There is a disc in the top right corner spinning, but the rest of the screen is totally clear i.e nothing inside the the round compass or in the vertical boxes.
The unit is in a good area with nothing restricting the signal, it has been in this state for over an hour and half but still no joy, any help would be appreciated.

Has it ever worked?
If not - then it could be a problem with the on-board GPS receiver - which would be a bit of a pain.
The spinning disc implies a connection to the GPS but the lack of anything displayed in the status screen would suggest nothing is being transmitted.
You say there is nothing in the vertical boxes? Does that mean you are seeing some? Do they have two digit numbers below them? If so then sats are being seen - but no information has been received that allows the unit to calculate a lock. This could be due to poor reception conditions. It can take a long time for a first time start as the unit has to get a lot of info from the sats and poor reception can increase the time taken to receive it. _________________ Phil |

One other reason that could explain the problem is that the GPS receiver has been switched to operate in SiRF mode rather than NMEA, there is a method to switch this mode detailed Here - Mike |

OK - have you tried the suggestions by mikealder and robertn yet? Winfast will make it easier to see wht is (or is not) going on. _________________ Phil |

You will notice sometihng about my answers to PDA- GPS questions - If you aint installed Winfast, you are guessing what the problem might be. I generally don't waste time with guesses, being a professional engineer I am expected work with facts! |

Hi robertn
I don't know if I am missing the obvious, but I can not seem to find anywhere to be able to download the winfast program you are suggesting. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Andy
Already tried that but all I seem to get is the instructions on how to use it,
like I say unless I am missing the obvious, I can not find the programme to download in the first place.

You shouldn't have said "thanks"!
My shoddy detective work, you're right, that's just the instructions.
I feel duty bound to really find it now... |

Try "Leadtek Winfast Navigator"
I haven't actually found a working download (first try looked hopeful but it was an ftp site and returned an error).
There's an FAQ about it HERE |
