|
|
Hi Everyone,
I just joined the forum because I'm hoping to get some advice on wheteher there is a decent product out there for me.
Basically what I need is a good portable GPS device that will work in Japan. I'm new to this portable GPS stuff, so I don't really know how it works. Do the devices come with preloaded maps? Would I need to find maps of Japan and load them on myself?
How good are these devices? Do they give step by step driving directions with sound alerted directions?
One of concerns would be the language...I can understand basic commands in Japanese and someone I know can show me how to navigate the software in Japanese to enter addresses, etc. So, it would be better if it were in English, but being in Japanese is ok too.
Thanks in advance for any help with this!

I cannot think of any portable GPS with any useable Japan map.
You may be able to find some Japan software if you use a PPC, but probably with only major cities supported. _________________ Pc-Mobile

It will be much easier if you buy that while in Japan. _________________ Lutz

Thanks for the replies. What about devices like the Mio? I heard that you can download maps for them. |

Most PPC with built in GPS on the market now are OK and they invariably have sirf3 chips.
You just need to buy the appropriate software. Some software like Mapking do have Japan/Tokyo maps but you have to pay extra for it. _________________ Pc-Mobile
