Tomtom one XL map problem

I have just bought a tomtom one xl from pc world after my old version one died!. I was a bit miffed that the uk map is onboard but it had a SD card slot so I thought never mind I can still use my western europe map in it! When I put the SD card in a screen appears with a egg time asking me to wait. and thats all it does! Any one have any idea how I can get it to run my western europe card?

The One XL requires the whole operating system to be installed on the SD card if you have one inserted. It sounds like you might have a version on there that is not compatible with the XL?

First, just try a press of the reset hole while the SD card is inserted. That might be all you need.
Otherwise I can think of two possible ways forwards
You could try connecting to Home and asking it to reinstall the software (again while the card is in the slot). I use Home as little as possible, so can't give exact instructions - sorry.

Or, if there is space on the card, copy everything EXCEPT the map folder from the internal memory onto the card. But DON'T wipe the map folder on the card.

Safest way to do this would be to make a new Windows Explorer backup of BOTH the internal memory AND the Western Europe card first.
Only then can you delete everything from the card EXCEPT the "Western Europe" folder and replace it with the stuff from the internal memory (minus its map folder).
