720 or 720T ?

I see on Handtec they have both, but i was under the impression that Traffic on the T versions does not work in the uk.
Am I right to assume that ??

At Handtec they tell me it does work but not great !!

Any thoughts??

That's about right. The T model wasn't launched in the UK until they were satisfied the new version of the antenna worked OK.

Most people who've got the new one say it is a big improvement on the old one (not difficult!), but it is still a bit flakey in some places. A couple of people say it is no better at all.

TT have just released a new traffic module in the UK so if you do go for RDS make sure you get the new version.

TT RDS uses Classic FM transmitters to carry their data. Where I live on the south coast even a good house mounted aerial has a problem getting Classic FM let alone on a car.

If I drive 15 miles to Brighton Racecourse my TT RDS module gets a signal.

Only plus point is no annual sub.

Just to clarify, the 'T' versions now being sold in the UK do come with the latest version of the TMC antenna.

I think i will go for the T version and hope for improvements to it.

My dad has the Navman with the traffic device which uses Classic and i personally think it is useless.
Is the tom tom one the same as that or is it better or worse ?

A few questions on the same subject.

Can I buy a 720 now and buy the antenna later and 'upgrade' my 720 to 720T?

If so how much are the antennas to buy seperately?

I was going to try the GPRS TomTom Traffic subscrition via my Orbit XDA.

How much is the subscription for that please? I assume its annual.

Is the 720T TMC via FM RDS free ...for ever?

Two last questions then and I'm off to the shops. :-)

One - Where do I find the TMC RDS FM aerial sold as an option please? Its not listed as an option on the TOMTON GO 720 accesories page (suprisingly :-) )

Two - What is the TMC reception like around West london please? M4/A4 area from Chiswick to M25?

...and then up around the M25 to Sheffield ? ...

I use that CAB file on my Artemis which is the same device as the Orbit only the case is a little different, and it works fine.

A quick note, if you have GPRS based traffic it will obtain the information via your mobile phones internet connection, for this you need the DUN profile, also your network provider must have enabled full GPRS conectivity (not just WAP), if you are with O2 watch the cost in use very carefully as their data costs are horrible.

When you plug the RDS-TMC unit in to the nav unit RDS becomes the mode it will use for traffic information, to switch back to GPRS traffic requires you to pull the plug out for the RDS device.

Reception can differ due to the weather, let alone location - I have used mine around Shefield and it has worked great, no idea around the west end of the M25 (I avoid that area if possible). For a supplier I think you are best looking around on the net before contacting them to confirm the receiver is indeed the newer model - Mike

Splashed the cash on amazon last night. Went for the 720T which I will trial on the TMC over the next two weeks.

If it is crap I will return it and get the 720 and use GPRS. I have around a 4MB per month data allocation built in to my tarrif. I have the full fat GPRS data account enabled.
