I have just downloaded the new 710.1561 map of Western Europe. Before doing so I deleted my old Western Europe folder to make enough space on my SD card.
I went to make a backup before installing the PGPSW database and to my surprise found that the database was already in my new folder, together with a couple of other POI databases that I use. How did they get there? I completely removed the map folder which held them. Are they replicated somewhere in TomTom's internal memory?

Nope.
Afraid I can't see how it can be as you describe. |

Seemed odd to me, but the sequence of operations was
1. Backup my SD card using card reader
2. Delete my "old" Western Europe (Navteq) map from the card.
3. Download the 710.1561 map using TomTom Home.
4. At the end of the download it automatically installed the map to the device
5. Remove card from device to make another backup (Prior to copying PGPSW database)
6. Explore card contents, using card reader, before backing up.
At this stage I was amazed to find that the camera database, together with a couple of other POIs that I use, were already in the new Western_Europe_1GB folder which TomTom Home had created during the installation process. I had not used a folder with that name before.

Sounds like you have discovered something that the Home software does which is useful, if the software knew you had these POI files in the old map its not unreasonable for you to expect them in the new map - Mike |
