When I tried out the 970T for the first time in 'free navigation' mode, I found there was a huge lag in the mapping and the display was very jerky. When I later tried it out on a proper route it had no apparent lag but the display was still jerky and not as smooth as my previous Blaupunk Lucca was. Is the processor not powerful enough for it.

I have a similar experience with my 980T and was hoping that this would be cured with the new V7 software. Which software are you using? |

I am using the latest version 7, as I have just purchased the latest X-970T New Edition.

It is disappointing to hear that. I was planning to use an external antenna to see if that helped but have not done so yet.
I sometimes use my Garmin 2820 alongside my VM 980T and the Garmin is much more accurate in positioning. If only it had all the features of the VM! |

You make me regret to have kicked out my Streetpilot C550 and ordered a new edition 980T

I travel extensively in Europe and the VM cannot be beaten for finding and allowing you to choose hotels, restaurants and other POIs etc. If only they can improve the accuracy of the positioning as when navigating its about 100m behind. But if you listen to the voice and not watch the screen you should be OK.
I am very interested to see how the new Garmin Nuvi 7XX series will compare with the VM980T with V7 software.
Incidently another limitation I have just read about for the VM is it can only store 100 contacts from the SIM if you use Bluetooth. This is a serious limitation.
However their customer service is and was superb even before the arrival of Stu. |
