I've just bought a 92TW and I'm not happy that the traffic information needs a £20 subscription. Nowhere on the Sony site, or elsewhere for that matter, does it mention £20!
Anyone paid the £20?
Is it worth it? |

The Sony UK site seems quite clear to me:
Quote: | TMC: Traffic Message Channel (service requires a premium in UK and France) |
Amazon state a subscription too, as did the one other online website I checked. _________________ Please don't be offended if I do not reply to a PM - please ask questions via the forums. |

I don't know why the manufacturers don't all just include TMC in the purchase price of the unit.
After all, TMC on their units is tied so it's not as though the end user has a choice of which provider they use with their unit. _________________ Andy

Yes, I must admit this does seem a little strange - presumably it means Sony only pass on the cost to the traffic provider when users sign up, instead of having to pay for every potential user, whether they use it or not.
Of course, given there is an explicit fee for the function, I would at least expect it to work properly... _________________ Please don't be offended if I do not reply to a PM - please ask questions via the forums. |

Yes it seems I stand corrected. Thank you for pointing it out. I wrongly/foolishly assumed that the subscription mentioned was to carry on with the option and that the device came with 12 months or whatever included. The mention of £20 extra required to make the device function fully would be helpful in the sales patter.
Still, onwards and upwards! Can anyone recommend paying the £20? |

Well I paid 'em anyway and the thing seems to pick up from Classic, Smooth and Trent in my North Notts area.
Not seen any 'alerts' yet, just road works. |
