I've been almost literally banging my head into a wall as despite of hours of troubleshooting, I haven't been able to solve the problem with my new TomTom ONE XL Europe. The problem is that trying to use TomTom HOME (both versions 1.5, found on the setup CD, and 2.0, downloaded from the TT website) for managing the device just doesn't work. The PND shows up in My Computer as a mass storage device, just as it should, and you can manage the files on it with TT HOME or via My Computer, so adding or removing voices, maps and POIs works. Software updates, MapShare downloads and other online content just doesn't work. The ONE XL itself works as it should, so the problem seems to be related to TT HOME. The ONE XL has the original 6.x series software as I haven't been able to connect for updates.
The problem occurs whenever one tries to run TT HOME, no matter if I'm logged into Win XP as admin or power user, the program loads, but runs slowly (all menus open with a long delay, etc). Trying to use the login option from the menu causes TT HOME to prompt that it's busy communicating with TomTom PLUS. The login globe icon rotates, but despite waiting for at least 5-10 mins, nothing happens. I have no TT account associated with TT HOME, as I haven't got so far that it'd prompt for the login details. I've tried rebooting, re-installing (no, haven't forgot to remove all the program directories), switching version, having the PND plugged or unplugged to the PC, etc. I have checked the program directory for the error log, but apparently none is created, so it doesn't seem to encounter a logged problem. I have also tried disabling the firewall, but no cigar. Yeah, risky, but after some 6-8 hours of hopeless tinkering you certainly start to feel sporadic. I've also been trying with the firewall on and with the appropriate firewall rules in place, but no luck there either.
I haven't found any similar previous login trouble cases here, except for some remotely linked ones, but all those have been with an error log being created or without the program stalling. I'm starting to feel helpless with the issue, so any suggestions would be welcome. I might have forgot to give some essential clues, so do indeed ask for more details.
Thank you in advance! |

Have you created a TomTom Account on www.tomtom.com ?
Unless I've missed it, it's the only thing you didn't mention. _________________ Richard

Yes, I do have one. Actually it's one I previously used with my TomTom NAVIGATOR 6, but I changed the device code to the one of my new ONE XL. I did double check I typed it right and that it's the code found through the menus of the ONE XL. Also tried if it matters being logged in or out on the website while running TT HOME. |

I am having similar problems - my TomTom ONE XL is not recognised by TomTom Home. My laptop is recognising it as a removable device and the sat nav says it is connected to the PC, but TomTom Home insists there is not device connected I am going mad. I have Vista and am thinking that may be something to do with it? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Aaaaaaaaargh! |

I too have exactly the same problem as you both have described. I have tried both the downloaded and CD software. Aghhh. Help. |

I have the answer! There are some image files that TomTom need to semd you which you have to copy to the root directory of the SD card. I did this and things started working perfectly. The folder is called 'home images' - ask TomTom about this and they will send you full instructions. Personally this looks like a fault to me and I think TomTom should post something on their website to save people like us wasting our time trying to get an answer. Hope this helped! |
