Hello, I bought the Destinator3 kit (that comes with the Leadtek GPS 9532), and I would like to know how to extend its cable?
It uses an RJ11 connector, so, can I use any regular RJ11 cable extension? Such as a regular RJ11 telephone line cable?
I have tried to use an Telephone Inline Coupler (http://www.national-tech.com/specs/mc-6p6c-st.htm) adding another segment of RJ11 cable but it didnt work (GPS not found):
Leadtek9532 RJ11 cable connects to the cable coupler, cable coupler connects to an RJ11 telephone cable, RJ11 telephone cable connects to the Y cable (car adaptor, to my handheld and power)
It didnt work, but the default setup (without the extension) works (but the default cable is too small for my needs).
I think that the problem is the cable coupler, or maybe the signal being lost or the cable is too big (I need 1,5 meters more than the 9532 default cable).

the cable length is not a problem. the coupler is... it is crossing the wires inside... you will need to find a coupler that doesn't do that. Or just do some soldering. _________________ Lutz

indeed this looks ok... Any chance you can ring the wires through (with a multimeter) to make sure you don't have any loose contacts? _________________ Lutz

It works!
I found that the problem was at the Y connection. I connected the telephone cable on the Y connector and the GPS was found. Seconds later the GPS lost connection, then I pressed the connector more firmly and then the GPS was found. So the problem is that the RJ11 connector is not so firm at the Y female adaptor. I fixed that with a little piece of tape.
I want to post some pictures on how I hide the GPS and the cables, so maybe the group have some suggestion. Can I post it in this forum?

If you want to compile a little article (objectives, how you did it, result) and some pictures (no more than QGA please) then you can send that to my email address, and I'll ask for it to be added to the reader mounts section.
