Got a call from Alk yesterday (I had requested to be on their wait list) asking if I wanted to pre-order CP7. I asked for, and was given, a decent discount over their upgrade price, so I ordered. They are promising a ship date in mid-October. We'll see what happens! |
How much are they charging? Are you getting just the UK maps or the whole of Europe? |

Well, being in the good 'ol US, I do hope I'm getting the N. America maps..
I think the standard upgrade price is around $99US or so. After I purchased CP6 early this year, I called to return the product because the map data was just not acceptable. They convinced me to keep it and told me I would be given a free upgrade when CP7 came out 'in another month or two'.. Well, we all know how that worked. So I told the sales rep this, and he dropped the price to $50US. Since I have been using it occasionally, I figured it was a fair offer. I just hope it turns out to be as good as they claim! |

I have asked ALK if they have a release date for V7 and if traffic will be available for Vodafone users. Here is their interesting reply.
Quote: | In regards to your recent email there is currently no firm release date for co-pilot version 7 as we are going though the last stages of testing and production. Once this has been completed an announcement will be made on our website with full details and instructions on upgrade paths and how to purchaser co-pilot 7. Please visit our website on www.alk.eu.com for regular updates and all information.
In terms of traffic it has yet to be tested on the vodaphone network once it has been tested and confirmed to be working on it will be posted on our website.

Hilarious! They have been promising traffic support since I brought CoPilot5! This has been going on for YEARS now. Steer clear of this company and their vapourware. _________________ Gone fishing! |

In addition - why is traffic operator specific?
Using Route 66 it opens a data connection and just downloads the traffic situation within a 60miles radius.

I exchanged emails with an ALK rep and he stated CP7 is due for release November 1 and quoted $199 for the software only or $99 for an upgrade. Gpspassion has a few screenshots as well. |

US website says available on 11/07/07 however only lists the $199 and $299 price and so far not impressed. The $199 looks to be with included 2 gig loaded SD card! I have my own and hope they just do the software only upgrade as in CP6. We'll see what happens. I have not got the upgrade email I got with CP6 yet stating anything. |
