I have the Nuvi 670 with the TMC, it's a bonus when the TMC comes on and I live in Kenton Park. I never spend too much time looking to see if the damn thing works but when it does the traffics never near here. You can have it switched on for ages and never get a signal, at others as soon as it comes on hey presto it work

Well wonder of wonders. Since I have an athermic windscreen I had given up on ever receiving TMC data. Therefore, I have been spiral-winding the GTM21 string antenna around the power cord that lays across part of the dash. Today, coming back home going North on the A1 I noticed a traffic symbol with the numeral 5 inside it. I tapped on it and had information that there was a 5 minute delay. The traffic was in fact moving rather slowly as it usually does around Team Valley after 1500. Even though I did receive this data I will probably continue to wind the antenna around the power cord until such time as the signal levels are boosted. _________________ Garmin NUVI 660 with 2010 maps, Navman 550, Garmin Etrex Vista, Garmin 775 |

FYI (if you're interested), I've finally figured out how to take out the radio in a 2002 onwards toyota corrolla (it involves removing the entire centre console see http://elguapo5000.com/?p=150 if you need to know how. It's for the US model but is pretty close).
Attaching the GTM unit to the external arial has improved reception a bit, but not greatly (I guess it's not amplified). In the end I've ended up ataching an extra peice of "string" to the end of the GTM unit I've got the Nuvi at the centre bottom of the windscreen, the GTM antenna in the L shape recommended going to the right and halfway up the drivers side of the windscreen, and then the extra bit of wire going to the top of the windscreen and across to the review mirror where it then dangles down to near the gearstick. I've found this gives me excellent reception (but annoys my wife). |
