|
|
I've received my new One XL this morning and I'm trying to connect it to TomTom Home but it just isn't working.
I downloaded the latest version from the TomTom website and installed it but when I connect the unit to my PC by USB it says 'do I want to connect to computer', I click yes and then the unit restarts and then comes up with the same question.
Please help.
Thanks. |

Sounds like the PC is not recognising it.
Leave "Home" out of the equation for a moment.
If it is running, open up the preferences and UN-TICK "start with my computer" or whatever it says.
Then close it down fully (not just "exit" on the menu but also by clicking on the icon in the bottom right next to the clock.
Now, the PC should recognise the TT as an external hard drive (two drives in the case of models with both SD slot and Interenal flash memory.
Try all combinations of TT and PC power on and off when you connect the USB, to see if any one of them gets the PC to recognise it.
Obviously try a reset on the TomTom.
Try a different USB port, preferably not one on a hub.
Try removing any references there might be to TomTom in Device manager on the PC. |

Should of posted earlier but I managed to get the problem sorted. What you need to do is have Device Manager open before you connect your XL, connect it and when it pops up in Device Manager quickly
Right Click on it and
Click Update Driver Software and then
Click Browse My Computer and make sure
C:\windows\System32 is typed in the box
and it should install pretty quickly.
Once it has installed it should be picked up in TomTom Home.
Good Luck. |

Did it install before?? The problem I had was that it would reset itself before any drivers could be installed. |

So its not recognizing the XL at all. With mine it recognized it at first and it actually came up with TomTom One XL in device manager before it disconneted again. Have you tried installing it on a XP machine?? |

I'm not sure what to suggest to be honest as it sounds like its slightly different symptoms to what I had, like I said my PC did recognize the XL in device manager it was just that it disconnected itself before the drivers could be automatically added themselves, hence quickly catching it in device manager and manually updating the drivers. It worked first time on our XP laptop as well. Maybe you'll just have to percevere using it on XP.
Wish I could be me more help, sorry. |
