|
|
This morning I checked for updates on TomTom Home with my One new version. I received an error message about ephem\packed\ephemeris.ee file, but on attempting to restart the One it wouldn't go past the logon screen, also it wouldn't switch off. I have done reset and attempted to restore backup via Home by connecting the card directly to the computer which has resulted
in the card not being recognised when I put it back in the TomTom after a reset yet again. Unfortunately I didn't back up the card to the computer only via TomTom Home. Is there an easy solution? Can I backup the card from files within the Home application on the computer?
Many thanks Terry |

If you are lucky, you can go directly to the backup which TomTom Home made (probably stored in My Documents - TomTom). Check that all the folders/files are there before you do anything else.
Then, using a card reader, copy the contents of your SD card to a folder on your desktop (in case it goes pear shaped, you can at least get back to where you are now)
Then format your SD card (I suggest you use FAT) and copy the backed up files which TomTom Home made directly onto the card, using a card reader. Don't try to use TomTom Home for this. Make sure you tick Show all Files and Folders before copying to your card. You should now have a working TomTom again.
Assuming that all is well, always make your backups by using a card reader to copy from your SD card to the PC - TomTom Home is very unreliable for backups.

Hi Robin
Many many thanks I followed your instructions and everything is working ok now.
I couldn't copy all the files as some were corrupted and wouldn't copy but I took the plunge and reformatted anyway. and restored from My Documents as you advised.
Kind regards Terry |

Please do ANOTHER backup (this time using Windows Explorer) NOW!!
Instructions are in the "TomTom FAQs" sticky topic at the top of this forum section. |

Hi
Thanks Andy_P2002 and forky for your advice, I will make a backup via explorer now. It sounds as though you aren't taking any chances forky.
regards Terry |

I've even got a TomTom backup on the network drives at work, so it gets archived every night! (Don't tell them though.... ) |
