Hi
Witch database is best PocketGPS World or TomTom Safety Cameras.
Both are about the same price now per year ?
I know the PocketGPS offer a great services other than Speed Camera Database but I mostly just use the Camera database..

I'd say the Pocket GPS database would be superior for the simple reason that you have users of all GPS manufacturers making submissions rather than just TomTom and there is a stringent verification process in place.
I don't know if TomTom give any indication of the number of cameras in their database, but the latest release of the PGPSW database contained the following in the UK:
UK - United Kingdom Active: Gatso 3559
UK - United Kingdom Active: Mobile 6313
UK - United Kingdom Active: Temporary 30
UK - United Kingdom Active: Specs 238
UK - United Kingdom Active: Redlight 1006
UK - United Kingdom Active: Truvelo 301
UK - United Kingdom Active: Monitron 100
UK - United Kingdom Active: RedSpeed 13
UK - United Kingdom Pending: Mobile 1284
Where possible, PGPSW have been trying to release speed camera databsae updates twice a month, so this might also be a benefit over the TomTom database _________________ Andy

Thanks For that info,
Were I live in Scotland not much changes in the way of new speed Cameras.
I used to subscribe to the database every quarterly or so just to keep things up to date. But now it is just available as a yearly.
Would they be a call to make the Database up for Just : Scotland, England, Ireland, Wales, so you could just down load the one you wanted?

I think that the UK is one database, then it's broken down separately for different countries, so in that respect you can pick and choose.
With so many members travelling across borders within the UK I wouldn't have thought that there would be much call for splitting England, Scotland and Wales. Besides which, I would have said that the database administrator has more than enough to do keeping the database up to date without worrying about which part of the UK a particular camera is located.

Don't forget Truvelo's are taking the place of Gatso's in many areas and are usually reversible. If a new one does appear you have more chance of being the first to see it. If you Subscribe and are the first to report the new one and it's verified, you will most likely get a Free Lifetime Membership. |

Here's my usual "who's is better" speech...
Quote: | (with the PGPSW speed cams).....you will have a MUCH more comprehensive set of data, that is updated more often, and has more camera types (red-light cams and all possible mobile sites for example). It's slightly cheaper too (£19/year).
Also, as it uses the POI system, it can have user-set warning distances (different for every speed and camera type) and voice warnings ("Warning - GATSO ahead, 40 mile per hour limit" etc. sort of thing), and they can be set to "Warn only when on (a set) route" or not, again on a "per camera type" basis. |
