Help!!
I have recently purchased a Mio P550 PDA with wifi and Bluetooth connectivity oh and of course gps function.
The problem is I can not get the unit to connect to my orange livebox no matter what I try, Orange…well lets just say after two hours of speaking to a nice man in India I was told that they do not support Windows Mobile 5 (thanks Orange).
Has anyone had this problem maybe I should be on a PDA forum but it’s worth a try
Please help if you can
Regards

What is Orange Livebox? There's plenty of us with long experience of PDA's but we need a bit more info
BTW BB Code doesn't work in Topic Titles so I've edited it to remove the code _________________ Darren Griffin |

Ahh right so that at least answers the question, it's a home WLAN Gateway?
Also worth checking what encryption you are using on the box, was Windows Mobile 5 capable of WPA or just WEP, you need to use the same security on both devices. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hello,
Thanks for taking the time to reply.
First of all I am using WEP and the same key as the one printed on the spec sticker on the underside of the livebox wireless router on both unit and box, the odd thing is that the Mio picks up other networks and the first time I used it and enabled the wifi feature it logged onto an unsecured local network called enterprise this enabled me to see the net?
However I would like to use my own connection for the obvious moral and legal reasons.
The Mio announces the presence of my and other networks but when it prompts me to enter the network key it just reverts back to the “AVAILABLE” status of the network.
I don’t understand about network adapters and all that stuff but they are an area that I have left well alone could they be to blame.
Any help or thoughts welcomed with thanks
Regards

Are you sure it is using WEP? Orange say it is WEP/WPA compatible and it could be that they key you have is WPA? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hi Settings as follow
Authentication: OPENData Encryption: WEP
The Key is automatically provided: (BOX UNCHECKED)
Network Key: "As provided on box"
Key Index: 1
I can’t see anything that leaps out at me but then again I am a novice with wifi networks
Thanks again

Have you followed the specific pairing instructions in the manual? I've just been perusing their web-site and it seems you may have to follow the pairing procedure to authorise the Mio as a wireless client? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hi,
Just got back.
Is that the orange livebox site or the Mio site?
That could be it I will try both sites and let you know how I get on.

It was Orange's Livebox web-site. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Doesn't the Livebox have one of those annoying buttons on the back that you have to hold in for 3 seconds and then you have 2 minutes to complete the connection? |

Yes you are absolutely right that annoying little button was the cause of all the problems. I kind of thought that once the network was up and running that was it and you could simply connect to it like turning on a tap! WRONG!!!!!!
The only problem now is that I can connect to my network but only get Orange homepage even if I type another URL into the address window and sometimes it tells me my browser is not capable of viewing this site or that the page was not found even sites like http://www.bbc.co.uk/
Anyone any ideas ?
By the way thanks for all the help

Sorry for not coming back to you before but it reminded me of the nightmares I've had with those LiveBoxes.... (shudder) |
