Easy.
When v2 installs (which is quite quick 'cos it has already downloaded to your machine about 20 times, whenever you log in with v1.6!), it gives you the option to keep or remove the earlier version.
I said "keep", and it leaves the old version called "TomTom Home" and calls the new one "TomTom HOME 2". |

Being a wise old hand (not a newbie with only his first, like some) with GO720 (number 3 now looks like it's good enough to keep), I tried that a few times already. At first, I naiively let 2 do away with 1.6. Then I uninstalled and reinstalled 1.6 and told Home 2 not to do away with it. I ended up with two Homes as you mention on my startup list or wherever. BUT whichever I clicked, I only got 2 from them both.
I shall now, on your recommendation, try it again. If it goes wrong, watch out!! _________________ Dennis

Home 2 used to give you the option to leave the earlier version of Home installed for use as well - I think it was only the Beta version of Home 2 that did this, I certainly have both 1,6 and 2,0 on this PC not that use the latter too often - Mike |

I haven't tried it again yet, been busy with work for a change! Oh, and going to see the taxman today. I still can't believe he's "enquiring" into my return - turns out it was because I put the right money in the wrong box (and he won't be asking for £400+ plus interest from January - ridiculous as they gave me a refund last November!).
My previous two Homes were supposed to have been 1.6 (retained) and 2, just that whichever I selected to run, started Home 2. _________________ Dennis

Oh, you low lives! You dirty rats!
I let it update, telling it not to uninstall the previous version. It did whatever and I have Tom Tom HOME and Tom Tom HOME 2.
They both start TT Home 2
I hate you all with a great passion!
Now I have to go through all that crap of uninstalling both versions and reinstalling 1.6 (which had better be on the CD), then I suppose I'll have all the crap of getting the flaming thing to recognise my accounts again!
Ooooh, you are all really hateful!!
Just look at the time! I've had enough for tonight! _________________ Dennis

So, do I get the impression TT home v2 is a pile of poo that doesn't always agree with pc's?
I tried to download it from the tomtom website. I deleted the old version then went on the website to download the new but it just put the old version back on.
Bummer. But I guess if you guys don't rate tt home v2 I'll leave it as it is and feel smug! ;-) |

You love it really, Dennis!
If it makes you feel any better, the virtual TomTom has stopped working in my v1.6 now.
Icon is greyed out and it doesn't even try to download the extra .dll that it used to do (more than once!) |

HI Dennis,
What Andy didn't tell you is that when you install TTH2 and keeping V1.6, you nee to install it to a new folder. for example:-
v1.6 = folder Tom Tom Home
v2 = folder Tom Tom Home 2
This way you keep both. And both work fine. I know I'm in the minority here by saying that I actually prefer TTHv2. I can't get mapshare on 1.6.
Hope this helps, dennis.

Thanks very much TVR for that. I still haven't got round to uninstalling and re-installing (so I don't know if I've got 1.6 on the CD!), but I'll remember it if I decide to allow TTH2 to install. However, I always previously was happy enough with 1.6 - it got the Mapshare updates easily enough, so I don't fancy letting TTH2 install until it gets to v7 or v8!! _________________ Dennis

Have to say.... that is complete rubbish.
The .ov2 file is the binary data for the locations, the .ogg is a standard format sound file. Copying the actual .ov2 and renaming it won't give you sound. |
Well im sorry BUT that is how I do it and i have no issues what so ever!!!!
Try it yourself.
