Hey, everyone who is moaning about paying for camera updates, if you dont want to pay, dont, its your choice!!!!! No one is forcing you to. But trust me, these guys have THE best database on the market, and until something else comes along and beats it.....

I fully support your decision to opt out of the monthly downloads and I have already signed up for the year. Keep it up!!!

Off Topic Get back on topic - I stand to lose 20 quid if this thread gets locked inside the next 28 days and going off topic won't help me! Evil or Very Mad

Did I see somebody suggesting a free trial download of just the 30mph fixed cameras to let people get a taste? Sounds good to me.

And Bad Cess to all pirates and torrenters (I don't quite know what a torrenter is, but it sounds unpleasant). I could understand them doing it for no gain other than personal satisfaction at achieving something, like climbing a big mountain, helping me across the road, that sort of thing. EXCEPT they are stealing someone else's labour. No matter that they've paid for it, they're passing it on and depriving pgpsw of the potential income, which is just like stealing. No different from shoplifting, burglary, bank robbery, ram raiding - all the other ways of taking what's not yours without paying for it. When I go out and verify a camera site for free, I'm not reducing somebody else's income (wages, bonus, dividend, whatever). If I pass on the database for free, I'm stealing it. Dramatic language, perhaps, but true.

Well, i have read every page and theres a mixture of feelings here, i can fully understand the reason to a yearly subscription of £19, i don't use the downloads on a massive scale, however if i am going on a long journey i like to cover myself by having the updates on my Tom Tom, and now it looks as if i will subscribe to the £19 as and when i next update and get ready for a long journey.
£2.00 was great and mentioned by others it wasn't a lot to lose, paying it if you wanted to "experiment" with files and follow the "tutorials" or "how to's" in order to set up your sat nav uniquely the way you wanted it.
£19 will give piracy / thiefs more of an incentive to get the downloaded files or share them because of the increase to the yearly subscription, Now i'm no rocket scientist here but its like a Buzz to them accomplishing what they have set out to do, and again like everything else abusing the system makes everyone else suffer, i am not saying i am not going to subscribe here, i am really on a budget with a young family and one wage coming in like others, i will also certainly still contribute if i see a camera of any calibre go up or new location of mobile (incidently still waiting to hear on submitted info of a mobile local to me that has not yet been confirmed (twice)(know it takes longer for mobiles though) My motto keep up the good work, anyone in their right minds at the saving of a rise on their insurance because of points or a fine, STOP, really ask yourself one question Is less than 5.5P per day too much ?

£19 for a whole year of updates to all the speed (sorry, I meant safety) cameras is real bargain and I don't blame you for trying to stop piracy. My manager once forwarded me an email with one of your databases attached. I politely pointed out that he and the originator of the email were guilty of software piracy and that our company ( a major communications provider) could be taken to court as well. I explained that the information in this database is only available to paying members of this site and my manager agreed to withdraw the email and inform the originator of his error. Let's hope your action will eradicate any further piracy. You can expect me to be renewing my subscription when it expires.

Once again there is the minority of people who go and spoil things for all the others. As other members have quite rightly said £19.00 is nothing for an ANNUAL database that if it only works once for the individual its saved them more than that straight away,as well askeeping that pink card/paper nicely clean,Which in itself is PRICELESS.
As a company owner and engineer I appreciate what goes on behind the scenes,NOT what you just see on your screen, regarding developement and testing this takes up valuable time and capitol .

For the rest of the site its full of valuable information and the help that you get either from other forum MEMBERS or the team is second to non.(i did support the skype idea) So in all i hope the direction that PGPS is going continues,GREAT JOB GUYS.

PS. if you want a free database give GELDOF or BONO a ring they,ll do it for free +£1,000000

I sincerely hope you are referring to the people who pirate the database, not those who are entitled to disagree with annual only subscriptions.

If each file was md5'd to a users account? that way it would be easier to identify who is sharing the file.

Hi Darren

I fully support your decision, although I think it sucks that you've been forced to do this by a handful of thieving scum.

[rant]
It's a real shame that people are willing to go to the extreme lengths they do to obtain a pirated copy and thereby 'save' themselves £2.00. I mean, really, the cost benefit against single speeding ticket easily justifies the nominal expenditure.

I also can't get my head around the blatant selfishness of this type of personality. It's kinda like people that go to a nice green park (because it's a pleasant clean, green environment), but then leave their rubbish behind. If everyone had that selfish grab-all-you-can-for-free-and-screw-everyone-else attitude, there would be no speed camera database.

Reading this thread, it seems a few folk are unhappy about the cost of the annual subscription. There is of course an alternative that seems to have been forgotten about - free membership is still available for those contributing to the database.

Perhaps these individuals that are spending so much effort trying to steal the database should consider the fact that they'd get a much better return on their time and effort (i.e. free lifetime membership) by contributing rather than undermining the whole enterprise. Grrrrrr Angry

Identifying the source isn't the issue, we already employ various methods to track data.

The problem was the thieves were willing to sacrifice £2 and their account only to return the next month under a different ID and using a new payment account.

To Andy_P2002, Weelogic, and GeePee, I have split the mobile discussion into a seperate thread here.

It may also be worth a mention that we expanded the Lifetime Subscription qualification criteria, see here.
  1. The first person to accurately report a new fixed site.
  2. The first person to accurately report a change to an existing fixed site i.e. change of type, correction of location, move etc
  3. The first person to accurately report a permanent removal of an existing fixed site.
  4. The first person to report a speed correction or submission of speed data where none previously existed.
  5. New reports of Mobile sites will also now qualify BUT because such sites are very difficult to verify, it should be noted that validation may take significantly longer than for other types of site.

So there has never been a better opportunity to qualify for a lifetime subcription.

Darren,

If you have traced some of these people and banned them why not take them through the legal system or would this not be cost effective. Oh and if I was to get a second Device for the wife would my subscription cover her or would it cost me another £20.

It would I fear be far too expensive, that's not to say we won't. I have one individual who is very close to becoming our test case Twisted Evil

A susbcription is deemed to cover a family, common sense prevails so sharing it amongst every descendant would be taking things too far but certainly anyone living under your roof Smile

Is his name is "Adam" Or maybe he's just very philantropic and thinks of everyone in the world as his brothers...
