|
|
Just got a GO500 and was trying to back up the card through the pc.Had already done a complete backup through the TomTom software.
I though it had finished and it hadn't and it crashed out. I then tried to use the restore and it just sits there doing nothing.
I copied the original memory card to a new one and neither work.
The software boots up but it can't get any kind of GPS fix?
Any ideas please? |

Have you tried a 30 sec Reset?
Do you know which software version you were using?
What is shown on the Screen while 'it can't get a GPS Fix'?
You could tried installing the Software again, even the original that came on the CD. Then update when it's working. _________________ Richard

Thanks for replying m8!
The software on the cd doesn't seem to be able to restore any backups. It has 2 backups listed each of 2kb, so they won't work. This seems to be the only software on the disk.
I have installed HOME and have updated to version 6 and have copied the maps over from my original card. Then I have tried both cards and it can't see anything. It also says that it seem to be a backup from a different device but only have this one. then it just hangs...
I'm really disappointed as I really like this one... |

Don't use the Backup and forget HOME. If they are only 2KB, they're are useless anyway.
Just re-install the Software, either from the CD, (which is usually a setup.exe file), or you can download it from http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/oldboy/TomTomUpdates/ttgoupg615.zip and just copy the 5 Files in the Zip to the Root of the SD Card. _________________ Richard

m8 thanks will try this. what do I do about the maps? I'm just wondering if they have been corrupted somehow? Is there anywhere I can get the maps again, withoug having to download them again ? I don't mean anywhere dodgy as I do own the device and only want what I had...
I can get it to the stage that the software is loaded and seemingly the maps but it can't get a fix after 30 minutes... |

IIRC you should be to get a GPS Fix even if you have a corrupted Map, but it can take a long while. Best place is outside on the roof of the car, with a good clear view of the sky.
Before you do anything else I would do a Full Backup of the SD Card as shown in #1 of the FAQs.
If the worst has happened then the best plan is to contact TT on 0845 1610009 and explain that HOME has messed up your SD Card. You will need the Product Code that came with the Map. _________________ Richard

Thanks again for the repl Richard.
Right, have left it on all night at the window and no signal still.
I have tried restoring the image to my new sd card and it recognises that it's a diff card and when I say go ahead and restore to this card it hangs. If I use the original it takes a couple of seconds and doesn't do anything. WHen looking at the original it says that there are recovered file fragments on the disk but the restore doesn't go anywhere near them.
So, would it be worthwhile deleting the contents of the disk and then restorinig the backup (from home) again?
**edit** just noticed these recovered file fragments are in the original (backup) as well??? |

You have to remember that the Device is a Linux Device and the meaning of the .chk Files is different to the Windows meaning. The .chk Files are required. Ignore what Windows says about 'recovered file fragments' when it comes to TT Devices.
If HOME hasn't done a proper Backup, it will be a waste of time trying to Restore from it.
Download the Zip from the Link I gave you above, and copy the 5 files to the SD Card. That way you will have a full application that works, then we can worry about the Map. _________________ Richard
