Hi People,
Quick question, I have an etrex yellow with which I have started geocaching. Found a couple of caches no problem. also use it connected to my ipaq for incar nav, no problem.
Kids were playing with it now although it tells the ipaq exactly where it is, if i enter a waypoint (using an os grid ref) and tell it to goto waypoint it is approx 400m out.
I suspect the kids have changed the setup but I have tried (almost) all combinations without success.
Can someone please tell me the correct setup for the unit.
thanks in advance

congratulations, they managed to change the geoid model... Can you check that and set it back to WGS84 ? _________________ Lutz

Thanks for the quick reply, My current settings are:-
Position format = british grid
map datum = wgs84
units = metric
North ref = grid
Variance = 002 W
Went outside and took a waypoint at my front door then checked it on my OS map. GPS thinks its approx 400m North of where it is.
Any thoughts ??
Thanks again

Hi,
It might be worth trying the Map Datum of “ORD SRVY GB” or similar if you wish to use it with Ordnance Survey Landranger maps. I’m not sure about the Variance setting though.
Warning, changing the Map Datum to anything apart from WGS84 will upset SatNav with the iPAQ. As most SatNav software will use map data, which is based on WGS84.

Thanks to all who replied, I am now working ok.
I borrowed a friends etrex and setup the same, for using OS grid refs it is set to british grid and map datum of OS grid (as suggested) for use with satnav it needs wgs84 (again as suggested).
Where i slipped up is that i was changing the setups and then trying to use it without switching off/on.
Looks like it needs a "reboot" to use the new setup.
Make sense when you look back !!
Anyway thanks to everyone.
