Membership Subscription Options Change

I totally agree with the charging system, before i became a verifier for the newcastle upon tyne area I paid my £2 every month, and would have paid the £2 a month had I not submitted 2 new static cameras as i became a verifier. Some people nowadays think its their right to get free stuff, if you can afford a gps/sat nav, then surely you can afford £19 a YEAR!

On a previous msg about the wording on some payment methods, i thought the first paragraph needs changing.

"You are currently subscribed to our site. If you select one of the subscription options below your subscription will be extended by the appropriate amount."

That still seems to indicate that there are different amounts of time that your subscription can be extended by.

Just my honest observation.

i have only been a member for a short while, but i used the annual subscription, and fully support the changes to enable the site to continue to function correctly

I too subscribed annually when I joined, since then I have been lucky enough to get a free life membership.

Personally i think £19 a year is not a lot for what you get, and also for the amount of effort put in by the team.

Could there be a time when more people are 'lifers' than subscribers?

What will the team do then?

Sounds like a good initiative. How well it works in practice remains to be seen!

The only downside I can see to removing the monthly option is that you may never capture customers who are completely new to the world of GPS. As a GPS novice I was quite prepared to 'risk' £2 to see if the product was any good, and once I had found out it was (and easy to use) I then paid an annual subscription. I would have been less likely to take a £19 chance without some kind of personal recommendation.

Perhaps you could offer some kind of limited low cost trial. Perhaps generate trial files for specific geographic regions of the UK which only cover limited area, and are updated less frequently. Offer new users a trial region for £2 to get them hooked and hopefully converted to an annual subscriber. The regional files would be less likely to be pirated as they a) would not be fully up to date, and b) do not cover all of the UK.

I fully support the change, for the reasons given, however, I was reluctant to post this initially because of my 'free' status. But, then I thought, what the H...! I'm just as entitled to my opinion as anyone else and I notice it has not stopped other members with a similar status. Lets hope it does work - it is a shame that it has been necessary as it does effect those members on a tight budget more than we rich, Corfu holidaying, pensioners.
