I'm not with you? It still mounts the device and internal memory so that proves USB communication? _________________ Darren Griffin |

I have ordered the Brodit mount for the 720 so I can fit it elsewhere. |
Mine sticks like sh!t to a blanket but I will get a Brodit active mount if one makes an appearance. |
I've just ordered a 720 from the link for £267, after I had received an email from brodit stating that they will have an active holder ready any day now.
I don't like using the suction mounts mainly for security reasons, plus they are mounted closer to me using the brodit mount.
I am buying because middle age is catching up & my MDA screen is just too small to read comfortably whilst driving!
I guess the main feature that interests me is the ability to update the maps. _________________ Skoda Columbus and for emergencies: TomTom + iPhone 4 & TomTom car kit |

Yeah, the bigger screen size is a huge plus-- especially because it makes it safer when driving. Let me know how the Mapshare feature is, and if it's easy to update maps. It seems like it would be really convenient. |

Do a Search to find Tim Buxton's article on how to do map changes. You can make changes to your map and send them off to TT as an auto upload when you connect to TT Home. At the same time, you can receive downloads of changes made to the maps.
Be aware of at least two things.
1. Some changes you can make and they will immediately appear on your own device. Some changes can only be done as narrative, so they don't and won't happen until Tom Tom sees fit.
2. You have the choice to filter your downloads depending on how confident you are that they'll be reliable - if you opt to receive all changes, then you run the risk of getting a change which I submitted maliciously, blocking the road past my house to stop you disturbing my sleep, parking outside my house and driving over my front lawn!! Equally, you'll get the changes submitted with the best of intentions by the local idiot who can't quite remember the road name - you only have to ask MaFt how many very bad coordinates he gets for camera reports to understand this could be a problem. _________________ Dennis

Thanks for the informative post Dennis. I will look into that article to learn more. Mapshare seems promising, as long as you look out for the things you mentioned- (i.e. putting a filter on your downloads, etc.) |

I just have to add that Mapshare is indeed promising. But unfortunately, not promising enough - TT haven't made any promises as to how they will deal with the submissions, at least, not when they will incorporate them for us. I'm on my third GO720 after returning two early batch faulty ones. With the first one I submitted some changes and those have been downloaded to my third device - because they were possible to do (change a dual carriageway to two one way roads from two two-way roads, for example) and because I've selected to accept all changes. But there's no sign of the speed limit change, the roundabouts or the discontinued roads I submitted. I don't mind contributing to TT's map information, even though they will at some time in the future charge me for a map update release. But I DO mind if they get all this information and don't get on with verifying and applying it.
Similar comments can be levelled at the speech recognition feature on the 720. It's a brilliant development, but hasn't been applied properly yet, maybe the next release but one? It just doesn't do it in enough features - what price speech recognition for writing texts, for example. Never mind, I'm sure it'll come, I just hope it's soon. _________________ Dennis

Dennis, you're right, this is a new technology, so they definitely have some kinks to work out before its working perfectly. I'm sure they are working to fix the current errors. But, in the mean time, at least its a step in the right direction--the technology is more innovative than the others out there. |

I have seen this on play.com for £280 (+ £5.60 discount with Quidco).
Is there anywhere cheaper to get this unit ??
EDIT : Just found it for £273.72 delivered next day from handtec
And Halfords do it for £280 - £11.20 = £268.80 through Quidco. |

I got one last night from Comet for 279. Reserve online for the online price & pickup from the store. All very easy. And saves #50.

Just to let anyone know.
I have tested the 720 with the K810i and although i did it in a rush everything works apart from the wireless data transfer, but that might have been me rushing it.
Text messaging works a treat. |
