Hi, If you download a map from the TomTom website, you have to use TomTom HOME, so I think it will be on there to download again (I Think). If you buy a SD card, the usuall procedure is to copy it using windows explorer, then you have a copy on your computer should you loose the original, or accidently delete something, or better still, copy, the copy from the Computer onto a bigger SD card, so you can add maps, POi's etc, and use the copy as a working copy, and put the original away in a safe place, and if you are realy paranoid, burn it onto a CD. I have my TomTom on the computer, and on CD, and the original SD card in a safe place and I use a copy on a 2GB SD card.
When you buy a TomTom map, you have to activate it, the code is a combination of the product code and the device code, so once it has beed activated on one device, it cant be used on another device, as the device code would be different, so to stop piracy, don't know if its the same on a PDA, Phone etc.
This link is for a TomTom, but you might find it usefull, I'm sure you can copy the maps in the same way.
