I have just bought a Quest off e-bay for my motorbike. In my innocence/ignorance I didnt ask enough questions and the unit came without the Master Code or software CD. The seller now says he hasnt got them. The way I read it I need the master code to update the maps, currently V6.
Am I now stuck with an out of date system or is it possible to update without original code.
Only got the quest cos I cant afford the Zumo or TT Rider.
Any help/advice welcomed, Thanks _________________ So many questions, so little time.

I'd speak to Garmin support and see what they can do. Your unit may turn out to be stolen - a legitimate seller would realise the importance of the codes that come with the unit.
Let us know what happens, I'd be interested to know.... _________________ Gone fishing! |

Well I have spoken to Garmin, its not looking good.
They were very helpfull but not able to resolve problem. Basically the unit is not registered to the guy I bought it off and without the permission of the registered owner I cannot register it in my name. They have no record of it being stolen, (but its unlikely anyone would report it to them anyway).
Garmin cannot tell me anything about registered owner (DATA PTOTECTION ACT), not even his e-mail address, and they are not allowed (or willing?) to contact PO to check.
So basically I am stuffed, I cant register it to upgrade maps, cant check if it is stolen so the only options I have is live with the out of date mapping and take the loss.
Not willing to stick it back on e-bay and give some other sucker the problem. _________________ So many questions, so little time.

Return it to the person you bought it from. It's defective. Contact eBay if he refuses. |

Crazyfingers is right. Return it on the grounds that the person who sold it did not own the unit and has sold it to you without "good title" rendering it useless.
Strong language, but if they person who sold it to you brought the unit legitimately then person he brought it off would have known that it was vital that the maps and license keys went with it _________________ Gone fishing! |
