Is Mapshare only going to be free for a year then become a ‘charged’ service?
The reason I ask is that a promotional flyer that I got with my TT 720 offered 3 things:
1 The latest map download if your is out of date during the first 30 days of ownership
2 Safety Camera database
3 Mapshare – For a period of 1 year.
This would suggest that Tomtom will get us all to do corrections for them then start charging us after a year if we still want to get updates. I may be being cynical but I’d like your thoughts. |

Hmm, I just noticed this too.. so they publish maps with glaring errors, and then will want to charge you when you fix them yourself? |

From tomtom's website:
Quote: | For each map, we generate and update a database of map corrections for up to one year. After one year, this database will no longer be updated with new map corrections, but can still be downloaded by anyone using that map version. In order to continue receiving new map corrections you will be asked to purchase a new map version which already contains the corrections reported by you and other users previously, as well as the changes made by the map provider |

The way it was explained at the launch is that the patches that are dowload will eventually fill the memory (both storage and RAM, I assume) and so a new map complete with all the changes and corrections integrated into it will be released for sale. MapShare will then begin again on that release. _________________ Tim |

Tim did they also mention that the POI updates will also the system, as you slowly loose (at random) all the POIs as the limit is 100.
Sorry for the censored I thought that the POI updates were a good idea, but not at the expense of loosing the work POIs that I have to travel to, so am extremely disappointed.

In a word, no, but I haven't come across that problem (yet) and I subscribe to every POI update. _________________ Tim |
