Oh SHUCKS!! That's torn it. Tom Tom have just announced the 920, availability last quarter of 2007. Now what do I do?
In your declining years are you ever going to be going to the USA or Canada and actually driving over there, because if not there's not much point in waiting for the 920. I'm mean lets face it, you have already b******D up two 720's what chance does a 920 stand. _________________ Graham.

I use it but prefer the Merc system which can be cruse control or speed limiter, this last mode lets you modulate the cars speed using the pedal but will never exceed a set level - works much better in heavy traffic.

My Renault had this, too, although it had an override whereby if you literally floored the pedal it would exceed the limit you'd set. I still preferred cruise, even through roadworks. _________________ Tim

A conundrum - do you fall into neither category, both categories (north and south) or does that depend upon the topic at a given time?
Well, neither and both, I suppose. Northerners think I'm a southerner, southerners thing I'm a northerner! My Mum's from Yorkshire and my Dad's from Somerset. I'm a neutral and, no, it isn't topic dependent. Unless I change my mind, of course. _________________ Tim

That's how it operates on our Merc, the speed limiter is superb for road-works and long SPECS stretches, cruise is OK where you have long open stretches, that's pretty rare here in the SE though. It's only when you set cruise that you realise how variable other road users speed can be even when there is no reason for them to be yo-yoing. _________________ Darren Griffin

xda and PaulB2005 why the cruelty? I was playing for the sympathy vote and you two go all horrid on me. Just because I'm too old to withstand the journey to USA and Canada is no reason to stop me having maps of them. And let me assure you, I'll not be even looking at the windscreen on the plane.
I didn't actually **** up the 720s, they simply weren't right. I have to have a 920 because it's there (well when it IS there it'll be because it's there) and I shall treat it with the same love and affection all my Tom Tom GOs have received in the past (even though some of them had to GO because they didn't reciprocate).
When I am outside some Amstel bears tomorrow, I shall think (badly) of you two, with hope in my heart (for it to be raining on you) and smile. _________________ Dennis

It'll know where it is but no maps obviously.
You mean no TomTom supplied mapping rather than no maps at all don't you? or don't the map tiles work, I appreciate the device cannot navigate in way using this method though.
IIRC the same application (add on for the map tiles) will also display altitude just in case you do decide to switch it on in flight - Mke

Real Men don't use Cruise Control, only Southerner Softy Pantses use it.
Guess that will be me then (Only the southern softy bit though )
The benefits of cruise control:
Helps fuel consumption I get 50+mpg,
Being able to keeping a steady speed, traffic permitting up hill and down dale,
Sticking to a consistent speed in average speed camera zones no worries about speeding up slowing down.
So if that all make me a southern softy then so be it.
Now the real man bit I don't think I have to prove that 1 _________________ Alan --- aka Wiz.

You don't get a sympathy vote when on holiday surrounded with Amstel bears.

I was just justifying my excuse to myself for getting the 720 when I did rather than wait for the upmarket 920

As I live just outside Edinburgh, which is not only north, but east, I must be really hard, according to Dennis's logic.
My own car doesn't have cruise control, but my work one does (Merc). In a built up area, I sometimes knock it on, so I know I am at 30 (not 31 or 29). I don't have to stop anyone, as very few folk want to overtake in case they get pulled over. Without having to concentrate on speed, I can glance about for mobile users. They get right up my nose, so do the ones who hold their phone below window height, texting away. Their head bobbing up and down is a big giveaway. _________________ Tommo...
