|
|
Hi,
I was just wondering, has anybody had a Gatso go off when your approaching it?
I had to move over to the middle of the other side of the road yesterday due to parked cars and think I went over the limit ever-so-slightly. It definitely flashed as I went by.
I didn't think they could record oncoming traffic, am I right or will I get a fine?
Thanks

Same thing has happened to me.
Your hunch is correct, you won't get a ticket. Or at least I never did _________________ Mike

Same happened to me, twice on the same camera in Canterbury, Kent.
I got so worried that i even turned around to see if it was some new fangled camera, i never got a ticket so put it down to a camera fault. _________________ TomTom Go 60

Standard gatsos are only type approved for taking photos of the rear of cars.
So they will never flash an approaching car on the other side of the road.
Dummy gatsos which have no camera somtimes have a flasher unit installed. This will flash at cars in both directions. |

Gatsos WILL flash you when you are on the other side of the road. Don't ask me how I know this, but let's just say that I have seen it happen a number of times.
My understanding is that although they flash, Gatsos do NOT take a photo when you are coming towards them because the second flash happens after the vehicle is past the lines painted on the road so it couldn't be used for enforcement purposes. _________________ Gone fishing! |

Thanks for the replies. I have always been adamant with people that the camera can't get oncoming traffic, but when the unit flashed I st5arted to question myself. I will sleep easier tonight! |

There is also the fact that unless a camera box is a digital one, it may very well flash even though it does not currently have the capability to take a picture, i.e. it may have run out of film, or may not even contain a camera! _________________ Kam |

The camera on Chiswick Bridge in West London regularily flashes when (especially) motorbikes go past it in the "other" direction.
It doesn't half scare the rest of the people, who think they've just been done when they were under the limit! Several times I've seen them looking devastated when they stop at the traffic lights at the end of the bridge, and have been tempted to bang on their window to tell them it's all OK. |
