No mention of the UK here! |
Yes the UK is mentioned - Royaume-Uni is French for United Kingdom | I thought that was a joke _________________ Jock

Well, as promised, TomTom supplid me with the latest European maps by way of compensation for the problems with RDS-TMC.
Unfortunately, however, having deleted the old map and all the voices I don't need and having freed up as much space as possible on the GO710, the memory card still is not big enough by about 8MB !!!
I can't see that, other than by going out and buying a bigger memory card, the map will ever be of use to me.
I suppose it was too much to hope for that I would get anything satisifactory from them. |

I suppose this will be the new TMC unit? |

Just spoke to TomTom customer services who have advised that the new TMC receiver for the UK will be released this month (but I'm not holding my breath).
It will be the same receiver that is shipped with the TomTom 920. |

The wait maybe nearly over, the latest update from TomTom:
Thank you for contacting TomTom Customer Support.
I apologise for the wait, but we do now have a more accurate estimate for when you should be receiving the TMC Receiver. We hope to ship out the receivers in 2 weeks time. |

Received an update from TomTom in relation to the reworked RDS/TMC receiver, which is below. I'm still awaiting a windscreen mount which asctually works after 2 different versions of the mount. Allthough TomTom state I have received the new revision mounts, I find it hard to tell the difference, there was no difference only the way they named the mounts. So, we will probably receive the same RDS/TMC Receiver with a different name.
TomToms response;
Thank you for contacting TomTom Customer Support.
You have recieved a new mount from us when you tell us that it still isn't firm so I have sent you two rubber gromits *small rubber bit on the back of device* this keeps it more secure. As to the RDS-TMC reciever it should be coming out within the next two weeks.
With Best Regards

No idea what these guys are on but from there reply it seems there sending out a part for the actual TomTom 910. Theres nothing wrong with the 910 its the damn mount. The 910 is just to heavy for the supplied mounts. |

With respect to the issue with the mount can you confirm the mount clicks twice as you lock it into position? - A lot of people think the first click is the device locked into position, this stage only attaches the device to the screen, the second click (and it can take quite some effort to rotate the collar to this position) locks the attachment arm into position securing the device and preventing the assembly "drooping"
Keep hold of the rubber plugs as they do fall out from time to time and were difficult to obtain a while ago - Mike |

Received a new mount today and you were correct in relation to the mount having to click twice. The new mount seems alot tighter although the old mounds did click twice yet they failed to hold the unit. At least that part of my problem is resolved, just waiting on the new RDS/TMC receiver.
I have these funny feeling that we are all going to receive exactly the same as before but TomTom are just going to add v2 on the end as they have done with all there other faulty products. I have seen no difference in the 3 mounts they sent me yet they were all slightly different in name |

We have been testing the latest re-design of the TMC receiver and it is a lot better than before. I can now get a signal on the M3 which was a no-no before and other team members have had similar results.
I was initially sceptical but it would appear that repositioning the antenna made a big difference.
So how do current owners of earlier units get hold of a replacement if they are having issues with poor reception?
Log a support call with TomTom and they will arrange a swap for a replacement unit, the Product number of the v3 receiver is : 4V00.013. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Log a request with TomTom 0845 161 0009 and see what they have to say, I wouldn't bother with the modified part if I were you, just tell them it doesn't work and you are fed up with the device; having heard about a newer better replacement RDS device you simply want to know how to get one - Mike |

It might be best if you have the details of any previous correspondence with TomTom about your RDS-TMC issue to hand, eitherway I would then phone them again to "jog" their memory - the numbers are above for you to use - Mike |
