For the 2nd time in under a week, the M25 was closed at J8 C/wise last night, and I got snarled up in the logjam.

I have given up with RDS on the Tomtom as it simply doesn't work, which Tomtom now agrees.

What else (ie other electronics) is there to get a warning about impending road closures, so I can plan a route around the problem?

Took me 4 hours to get from Crawley to leicester last night, which is 1.5 hours longer than usual. If I'd known when I left Crawley at 3:15pm, I'd have gone up the A24 to leatherhead and avoided the problem.

There must be a better way than waiting for the traffic news on the radio, which is sporadic to say the least.

I find the Highways Agency website a good place to start before a journey, mobile internet could help you keep up to date.

I would have checked, but the room I was in didn't have a network connection before I left.

Is there a phone number I could call before I depart, which has reliable up to date info. And how could I get updates along the journey?

Are the traffic master devices any good?

As far as I know the major providers O2, Vodaphone etc will provide traffic service for a fee, can't comment as never used them.

Never used a Trafficmaster device either I'm afraid. Try doing a search on hera for it and it might turn up some info.

I've just discovered the Highways Agency Traffic Channel on DAB. Very clever stuff, and about time too.

Just need to get a receiver to fit in the car.

I personally don't rely on any of them 100%. I use the TA traffic, TT Traffic and Vodafone 2222 and make a call from the combination of information I receive.
