Talking of Traffic, I recently purchased a Go720 and have been very impressed with it. I thought i would give the traffic updates a go and having logged into MyTomTom web page was please to see a free one month trial of traffic offered.

The sad news is (after some correspondence with TomTom) that this is not the case and there is no trial available. All very odd considering it appears there as bold as can be. Anyone got any feedback on this, or has anyone experienced a similar issue?

Are you referring to the 60/60 you see at the bottom of the Navigation Screen?

If so, it will only show if that information is in the Map Data. Even when it is, it's sometimes wrong.

Edited. And please don't Double Post. I've just seen your 'other' Post HERE.

Is it only possible to select fastest or shortest route options on the TT720? I was hoping it would have something inbetween like I could set on my old Navman ICN 530.

Six choices are :-

Fastest Route.
Shortest Route.
Avoid Motorways.
Walking Route.
Bicycle Route.
Limited Speed.

Ok, here's a question I don't think has been asked before, although I could be wrong. In relation to downloading map corrections, where the option reads 'from trusted sources'....who are they, who are the trusted sources, anyone know?

Also, I note today that there is an option called car preferences somewhere in my menu but it's greyed out, even though show all menus is selected. Is everyone elses greyed out?
Lastly, the option to record your own voice is now greyed out on mine, any idea how I re-enable it?
TIA.

Hi Hamie
I have Tomtom running on a PDA and it works just fine. I have only got one complaint and that concerns the Zoom function. Like yours it zooms straight back in (after I have zoomed out) and I have often wondered why they bothered to fit the zoom out function if it cant be used. Its a pity.

Recently purchased the TomTom 720 and generally I am impressed but am confused by the brightness setting.

If I select Change preferences then Brightness preferences and select the option Switch to night view when dark the display always uses the night view.

Have I got a faulty unit?

It does seem to be a bit funny with this. I stopped experimenting and didn't select that option. Instead I chose the reduced brightness at night, but with very little reduction. Bear in mind its light sensor is on the front, so if it's looking at something dark it may think it's night (or when I grab it, my thumb always seems to cover that hole).

Thanks for the reply Dennis.
I have tried covering the light sensor with my thumb and shining a torch on the light sensor and it always uses the night view when the option is selected.
I have also now selected the reduced brightness at night but thought that it would be nice if it automatically changed the display to the night style of map.
Anyway, if yours is the same I assume my unit is not faulty. Very Happy

In the Brightness Preferences I have the day brightness at 80% the night brightness at 15% and both "Turn the brightness down when dark" and "Switch to night view when dark" checked.

In a darkened room, I get the blue night time view and if I go to Change Preferences (pg 1 of 8) there is the option to "Use Day Colours". However, if without changing anything, I then hold the 720 under the lamp it automatically changes to the day view and when I look at the same icon in Change Preference it now says "Use Night Colours".

I'm not sure what happens when it gradually get darker at dusk, whether the day view dims and gradually turns to the night view. Not been in that situation yet.

I also assumed that the "Use Day Colours"/"Use Night Colours" was a manual change that I needn't worry about with the Brightness preferences effectively set to an automatic change.
