The above truism about shouting louder to make the natives understand does NOT apply where Glaswegians are concerned - they can't understand anybody else and nobody else can understand them. Confused

Serves me right, I expect. I downloaded a supposed manual and went to read it tonight, only to discover it was simply a sales brochure. Rolling Eyes

There y'go, see what I mean? Quiet, Loud, Can't understand a word!!

And I DID find the manual eventually. To prove it, here are two quotes ..

Page 25 - "Hands free calls are always played over the external speaker".

Page 46 - "Hands free calls are always played using the internal speaker".

Confused Sad Crying On Fire Grrrr

My question to TT support

Hi I have just purchased a 720 I am unable to turn the tips off on my 720. I have gone into settings chosen hide/show tips and whichever one I choose tips still come up on the LCD. Also voice recognition accepts city, street and number e.g. 171 repeats 171 then keeps adding extra numbers at the such as 1711 then 1718 etc.

TT Reply
Thank you for contacting TomTom Customer Support.

In response to your query, we suggest that you do the following

To perform a Factory Reset please do the following:

• Switch on the unit
• Go to 'Change Preferences' (ensure all menu options are visible)
• Go to the last screen and select 'Reset Factory Settings'
• Select 'Yes'

Then go through the setup procedure again.

Now soft reset your device::

• Connect unit to car charger or mains adapter
• Turn unit upside down (make sure unit is NOT in the docking shoe)
• Locate the reset button hole (between the word ‘Reset’ and an arrow)
• Using a paper clip or safety pin press inside quite firmly
• Hold for 15 seconds
• Release and turn Right Side Up
• Press the power button for 3 – 5 seconds.

Now go to 'change preferences' then tap hide tips.

If the problem continues, please let us know. You can also return it to the point of purchase for a replacement Go720.

Ye Gods and little fishes, why don't they mention this in the manual?? Grrrr I've been getting a trolley jack out to get under mine to reach the reset hole. And all this time I could have turned it upside down!! Damned if I can find the arrow marked "Reset" though.

Just a mad suggestion - try recording with an SD card in the unit? Or how much space is left on the Internal now? (Don't mind me - I don't know what I'm talking about, but sometimes idiots say something which triggers a better idea from elsewhere).

Anyway, TT don't do e-mail addresses. You have to do a "Question" and get an answer that way.
The way to do this is to go to their website....
Select "Support".....
Select your product.... = All in One Navigation....
Select your Model .... OOOOOOPS! The 720 isn't mentioned! Have you got a pirate copy of a satnav, you naughty thing, you? Either there's no such thing as a 720, or it 's so good, it doesn't need "Support"! Rolling Eyes

vroomfondel says "manual". Has anybody got a different one from the one I downloaded? Because the one I downloaded and actually started to RTFM (yes, me!!) in order to learn how to do speech recognition navigation the proper way, said (roughly speaking) press the icon and then speak the directions. That's it. End of. I picked up more from the man in the video - at least he said "one" and "one" and "OK". 'Course, he had it right first time, so I needed to know how to say "back" when I got it wrong. Babes and sucklings I just shouted "No!" and it went back. Dunno if that's right, but it works for me.
