I'm going to Romania next month and hiring a car. I really need a map of Romania for my tomtom 510 but so far can't find one anywhere.
Can anybody help me out? |

I don't think that TomTom have any mapping for Romania at present. _________________ Tim |

That map might be the old Eastern Europe map. If it is, TomTom dropped it because the mapping was extremely poor. No idea about installing non-TomTom maps. _________________ Tim |

Cheers. You could try this address: Str. Gratioasa nr.6, Bucuresti
From what I've seen of Eastern Europe maps they don't list Romania but it should be on it as they are pretty much East. |

It is not possible to use any non-TomTom maps. _________________ Lutz

The version of Eastern Europe v508 was dropped pre-release AFAIK was pretty dire anyway on roads other than the main roads. I have driven from England to Romania last month and if it is only help whatsoever, the only part of the mapping that was ok, happened to be in Bucureşti, but only on main roads. The map would route you down roads that were one way going the other way.
Easiest solution in Bucureşti is either drive your own car with UK plates, because I can tell you that driving on RO plates is not much fun except on the out of city roads, and avoid like the plague, the Craiova to Timişoara road unless you like travelling on a quarry pit road. A lot of Bucureşti roads are pot holed and subject to major roadworks.
A paper map is better which you can get at Marks and Spencers, Cora hypermarkets or Carrefour there. The public transport over there is good and cheap anyway.
Enjoy your trip.
I left in the morning when Bucuresţi was 44C in the shade and 59.9C in the sun on Calea Victoriei in the centre, but it is a lot cooler now for you. _________________ TomTom Go720 v8.320

Cheers mate, I've been to Romania 6 times. Everytime we've been in Bucharest but also to Canstanta and Mamaia too so I know how bad the pot holes are but I'm hiring a car so not worried about my suspension
We're flying into Bucharest then driving upto Roman for 1 week to visit the inlaws then off to the East coast for 1 week on the beach with little day trips in between.
I've got a Romanian road atlas on it's way from Amazon. I drive an HGV everyday so driving with all the crazy Romanians shouldn't be too bad. I just wanted a Romanian tomtom map if 1 was available as a back up plan.
The car hire firm can rent me a GPS for €50 but god only knows how good the mapping will be on it.
Thanks for the info |
