|
|
TomTom's descriptions of their new units based on navcore 7 (GO 520/720) states that they will be prepared for "rich POI" (referring to 3rd part supplieres of such material).
Being a POI-constructor myself*, I'm interested in enhancing some of my categories with more information like photos etc.
Does anyone have some information on how to create POI's according to this "rich" format?
* Currently I have created - and keep maintaining - over 100 categories with more than 6000 POI's in Norway and Scandinavia (all available for free download at the norwegian TomTom community: http://tomtom.nystul.no/forum/ or directly from my (very simple and amateur-like web-page: http://www.myhome.no/natter/TomTom/Natters_POI-filer.zip) _________________ PDA:

Should not be too difficult to find out. Disassemble the POI.DAT with Laurent's tools, and then see which POI types they use and how the data is packed.

Well, I'll certainly look into that option, but I'm not too optimistic about the outcome...
First, this will only give any clues if TomTom adds information to (ie "enhancing") their built-in POI's - presumably delivered with maps starting from v. 705.xxxx. As the information availabale at this time state that version 7 will be prepared for rich POI availaible from 3rd parties, it seems they have no intention on doing this - and presumably not changing the exisiting ov2-format for custom POI's either (which already differs from the built-in POI-format in POI.DAT).
I think it's more likely that they'll just add support for other POI-formats (mayby - although not likely - Garmins gpi format).
Anyway, I guess I'll just have to wait and see until the new software comes availlable...[/u] _________________ PDA:
