Hi guys. has anyone had any comments regarding the new TT One XL Europe? It's the slimmer model. I'm an x trucker returning to the job and finding the roads are a little more stuffed than they use to be. As for satnav? In a HGV I think it's all time we gave thought to our old roots. As far as I see this if we are useing satnav no matter which make or model surly we should also still be useing the skills that we learnt during our training applying the highway code as it should. I dont mean returning to being a goody goody but useing common sense. It's nice to have a computer that tells you were the low bridge is or the width restriction or maybe even the weight limit but what about those road signs that we should ALL see before turning down that road and if you see those signs and drive past I'm sure your satnav no matter how cheap or expensive will re-route you and I'd hate to think how many people STILL turn down them roads because the satnav say's so. Now forgive me for quoting the truckers bible but what would you do if suddenly your satnav packed up on route? Got a road atlas have you? Does it tell you where those bridges are? Well it should. The AA print an atlas specialy for truckers showing all the bridges, height and weight restrictions and I wouldnt go anywhee without it sat or no sat AND it's published every year so there up to date, which is more than I can say for some satnav updates. If your paying attention when your driving you should see the signs well in advanced anyway. I'm sorry to go on but I have heard so many storys about drivers ending up where they shouldnt be and getting stuck or stranded but if they didnt drive on a satnav ALL the time and took the initiative any satnav would do. MY POINT IS. WORK WITH THE SATNAV AND NOT FOR IT. Drive careful out there.
OK I'm done, now you can go ahead and give me a bashing, I'll use my satnav to escape. |

Thanks Alix. I'm still not sure what TomTom's up to with this new One XL Europe. It runs out at roughly the same price as the 710 but has much less to offer apart from the slimmer design and .3 extra screen size, not only that the battery only lasts for 2 hours as oppose to the 4 on the others. Any ideas?

Quite a bit bigger screen when you compare the x10 device next to a One XL, have a read of the write up Here - also the XL Europe uses built in Flash memory although there is a card slot for future upgrades etc, otherwise the x10 devices offer much greater capability in terms of connectivity (audio out, Hands Free for the mobile phone etc) - Mike |

It's a very good write up and I'm almost tempted to go and buy one but what about Garmin? Is there anything there that I should be taking notice of? Lets face it, they were origionaly the leaders in satnav although I read somwhere that they still tend to be USA orintated.

The plus point with Garmin is the after sales support which most users report as very good, other companies are not as well reported. I have a Nuvi and use it quite often, but I have to say the user interface is no where near as intuative to use on the Garmin devices.
I think you should sit down and have a long hard think as to what you want/ need from the device in the car, hands free for the phone means Garmin or TomTom x10 series (or wait a short while for the newer x20 devices from TomTom).
If hands free is not an issue the XL is a great bit of kit - Mike |

Thanks Mike. I need it for truck driveing but only as an aid as I said before in my big statement. I understand the aftersales for Garmin have heard this before and as they are only a short trip fom Portsmouth, Romsey, will be easy to pop in. Having said that that I already have a bluetooth headset which works fine with my phone so do I really need it twice? It's also voice activated so no problems. I didn't know they were bringing out a new x20. Do you have any info on this? Thanks

don't discount the mio units either.
if you are with t-mobile maybe something like a compact 3 with copilot 6 would be fine if your doing agency and jumping trucks also you'd be less likely to leave it in the cab so it would have less chance of getting nicked _________________ currently using aponia truck navigation on windows phone. Well it looks like im gonna settle for the TT1 XL WE. I've found where I can download the latest POI for low bridge and update for cameras and given all the info I can find and from friends and word of mouth this would seem the ideal satnav in this price range. Question is, do I buy from Halfords or Currys, the Comet here is shut down. Any thoughts on this anybody?

i have been using various sat navs for the last 3 years including Via Michelin, Destinator, Tom Tom, and now Navman! Via Michelin was as good as a chocolate tea pot, destinator was good but the unit brokedown 4 times in the 2 month i had (sorry didn't have it), tom tom fooked me right up (bu it was only the 300 and i've got mates who swear by the newer models), My first navman was the ICN530 and for trucking it was fantastic hardly ever sent me down a narrow road or weight limit. Just got a N60i posted a quick review that i've done since Thursday and i intend to keep updating it with new info(in Navman forum) but seems evan better than my ICN530, but time will tell! But the traffic unit is a must have extra. |
