I've never really looked closely at the various camera types that are in the database, and I see the following are listed this month;
UK - United Kingdom Active: Gatso 3553
UK - United Kingdom Active: Mobile 5961
UK - United Kingdom Active: Temporary 14
UK - United Kingdom Active: Specs 276
UK - United Kingdom Active: Redlight 998
UK - United Kingdom Active: Truvelo 295
UK - United Kingdom Active: Monitron 79
UK - United Kingdom Active: RedSpeed 12
UK - United Kingdom Pending: Mobile 1278
Please...what are Monitron and RedSpeed cameras ?
And how difficult would it be to identify each type while driving .... I'm only aware of Gatso cameras in particular on my TT system....what I mean is that it would be nice to identify on coming Truvelo's, which are more of a danger in my book. |

At the bottom of the Camera Page there is a fairly comprehensive description, and pictures, of each of the cameras. _________________ Richard

It's mainly for historical reasons. At one time there were only Gatso's, then a trickle of Truvelo's.
Because this would have meant another set of Speed Zoned Categories, and as they were both Fixed type Cameras it was decided to merge them. Remember, in the beginning there were few Truvelo's.
There was also the limitation of 39 POI Categories for later Version of TT5. Some other sat navs had an even lower limit. _________________ Richard

As Oldboy says, there are so many different scenarios of what people might want and what the different satnav systems are capable of, I guess a line has to be drawn somewhere.
If you are prepared to do the work yourself, it is a simple matter to open up the database files in a program like POI Edit (http://www.poiedit.com/), sort them into type and re-export them as separate files.
Easy for the "consolidated by type" file, obviously a bit more time consuming for the full speed-zoned set. |

Thanks . I imagine that it's even more difficult to determine the cameras actually on your direction of travel as apposed to the 'other way' ? It can be a little annoying to have a camera flagged up on the other side of a dual carriageway. |

Directional data is being added to the database to prevent this but not all units support it yet. Also some cameras are "reversible" which means they can have their direction changed depending on the time of day. |

Check your "warn only when on route" settings for every camera type.
On a TomTom it *shouldn't* alert you to cameras on the other side of a dual carriageway (as the unit sees those as two separate "routes"). However, some do still slip through especially if there is a slip road joining the two carriageways nearby.
On a single carriageway they will ALL alert, and until TomTom do a radical re-design there's nothing you can do about it. |
