HI
I am experiencing the same continual problem but only with this site
My Broadband connection is slower than a Dial UP connection at most times when using this site only

All server pages are loading fast for me on a 512k ADSL connection. Forums have been slower over the past few days due to the huge increase in traffic we're seeing for CeBit and everyone flocking to us to read/post messages about the latest announcements being the largest GPS site around. |

It's very hit-and-miss. Mostly pages are taking in excess of 20 seconds to load then suddenly it's one or two, then back to over 20 again. |

Same here, got to be the slowest pages to load of any site I visit.
Can be at least 15 seconds to load on any page, either forum or any of the reviews etc,
Not complaining though !
A great site, just so slow, drives me mad at times.
It has been like this for months, not just since the Tom ToM 3 stuff,
something is wrong somewhere..

Mark, this may be down to the ISP or backbone your joining, the slowness has only been this week from what I've seen and I'm joining the BT backbone at ealing, data is then going to telehouse and out to the website as it's off the core backbone at Telehouse.
Send me an email with a tracert to pocketgpsworld.com and I'll take a look. |

I think I said email, but heh! Anyway, that's the reason, you're going through 21 hops, I don't know why that is, your going through 11 hops to get out of your ISP/country. That is going to add delay to every single page you try to visit.
You're also getting milisecond responses in the hundreds, I'm seeing 21ms on average.
I'd suggest trying a different ISP, there's nothing we can do about that, it's latency around the internet between your ISP and the UK (as it's how you're getting from A to B (our site)).
Here's what I get, and you'll notice the difference!
1 18 ms 17 ms 19 ms btdhg524-hg3.ealing.broadband.bt.net [217.47.135.74]
2 19 ms 20 ms 19 ms 217.47.135.33
3 20 ms 20 ms 20 ms 217.47.135.106
4 20 ms 20 ms 20 ms inh3cs02-500.imsnet3.btopenworld.com [213.1.119.62]
5 21 ms 21 ms 21 ms btfl04-gig8-7.imsnet3.btopenworld.com [213.1.119.157]
6 20 ms 19 ms 19 ms core1-pos6-2.ealing.ukcore.bt.net [194.72.9.249]

In a word CeBIT.
Since the start of the CeBIT exhibition our traffic seems to have gon up by about 25% this seems to be putting a bit of a strain on the whole site.
We are actively trying to sort something out at the moment. _________________ Mike Barrett |

It looks to me like your ISP routes your traffic through America to the Netherlands to get to the UK.
An 21 hops is quite a distance too.
That said, I often find Pocket GPS slow too and I am based in the UK. |
