I would have said from here, but I seem to remember they removed them, because the postcodes are actually the "intellectual property" of the Post Office. (that's why they aren't supposed to be available as a free download from TomTom for example, but only available as part of a map purchase.
Having said that, 5 seconds with Google and "Postcode POI" found lots of places to look at. |

As has been pointed out the PostCode files are intellectual property and are not supposed to be avalible for free download anywhere. The fact they are avalible is beyond our control but we do not permit the discussion of unauthorised downloading of copyright material.
Please refrain from asking any further questions here. You'll have to find the answer somewhere else. |

Neither I or the OP suggested "free" Paul, and I certainly wasn't suggesting downloading copyright material with out paying the licence. You should know me better than that.
The first couple of links I saw when I tried a Google search were both paid-for databases.
Whether they are "legit" or not, would take further investigation, which I'm sure the OP was intending to check out. |

But...
Quote: | In the case of addresses, a crucial resource is the Royal Mail's database of 1.7m postcodes, {snip}
Royal Mail also treats the file as an asset for commercial exploitation. It charges commercial firms and government agencies to license the database. The company is coy about how much the Postcode Address File costs to maintain and how much it receives from licensing, or even whether it runs at a profit. |
from The Grauniad (so it MUST be true! )
and

Probably some subtle legal definition of "owns" as opposed to "intellectual property"? |
