Ok here we go got a tomtom 1 ver4 Smile

I am finding when I plan a route and pick the fastest route that I always end up down some country lane don’t get me wrong I always get there but am just fed up going down country lanes and having to backup because there is not enough room for two cars to past that how bad it is. Sad

Is there a setting to keep me to the main road and not down country lanes? Question

used it today to go from south Wales to Bristol airport and again it seems to send me cross-country rather than keeping me to the main roads double checked and i am selecting the fastest route. Crying or Very sad

ps forgot to say i have western europe and uk maps v675.1409

Are you sure its on fastest route, shortest route usually does that, and make sure "plan for limited speed", is not selected, or "Avoid motorways". The only one I have ticked is "Plan fastest route".

If everything is as Tanda says, then there's nothing more you can do. There are no hidden "avoid cart tracks" or "use only major roads" options.

Quite why TomTom have never implemented this is a total mystery. I'm sure they would if it was easy.
Annoying sometimes, but quite fun at others!

You will need to select Show all Menu Options in Change Preferences and then you can use the Planning Preferences to choose them.

I drive from South Wales to Bristol Airport and the country route chosen by TomTom using B roads is usually the best! (It is the route usually chosen by taxi drivers, because it avoids getting caught up in heavy traffic around Bristol.)

Only if the map data that TomTom buy and then code for their units includes the size/type of road.

I read somewhere that TeleAtlas has something like 19 "layers" of detail available, of which TomTom only uses a fraction.
