Advice on first navigation system needed!

Hi all! I've lurked here for a long time now, but this is my first post. I really need some pointers for buying my first navigation system.

I have used PDA based versions of TomTom and Destinator before and found I much prefer TomTom and feel it is probably the best supported package out there.

I am also thinking of buying a new phone and PDA and have been considering an all-in-one option like the HP hw6915. It seems pretty good, but as I understand it, you only get a single city map with it and the rest of the map data is only accurate to 5-digit postcodes. So maybe it is not the best option. Are there any other similar devices that provide full 7-digit coverage?

It might be that I am better going for separate components. If so I have seen some BlueTooth GPS modules that can double up as tracking devices to record where you have been. Are any of these any good? I know of the WinTec WBT-100 but am not sure if these are readily available in the UK. Something like this might be really useful to help me with mileage claims - does anybody else use them for this?

If I get a BT GPS module, any thoughts on where to buy TomTom as cheaply as possible? Also, which PDAs are highly thought of that also have built-in WiFi? I have always thought Dell Axims and HP iPAQs seemed good. I have also considered the Axim with the VGA resolution screen. Anybody used one of these with TomTom and does the unusual resolution cause any issues?

Whatever I go for, I want it to support customisable POIs and work well with the "safety" camera database from here, providing audible warnings of them as they are approached.

I'm really sorry to bombard you with questions, but I really don't know what to go for and need some pointers. Any help is very much appreciated. :D

Welcome to the forum, If you are considering a phone with built in GPS I would take a long look at the HTC P3300 Artemis or its derivatives such as the T-Mobile MDA Compact - III, or the O2 XDA Orbit. All these devices have a built in GPS receiver, phone, Bluetooth. Only the T-Mobile version doesn't have WiFi which you say is important - to be honest I don't miss it these days I simply use the phones GPRS connection for internet access wherever I want to (Much more freedom to be honest).

Load up TomTom or Route 66 and you will get full true postcode support with either package, as for a cheap place to purchase the software from try the advertisements on the right of this page.
If you do go for the HTC version of the above mentioned phone it come with TT6 pre-installed - Mike
