You can't help but laugh at the idea that someone would get a news letter about GPS news to find a page of mindless jibberish an ramlings totaly unrelated to GPS! You could almost imagine the expression on their faces.

I might laugh if it weren't for the grief we already get from Newsletter subscribers!
<RANT>We send our Newsletter to 100,000+ subscribers now. As soon as it goes out the grief starts. We get emails from people asking why we are spamming them (they have to sign-up AND separately agree to the newsletter to have received it)! and we get pleasant emails telling us they have changed their email address (their is a clear link at the bottom that allows them to change these details as their is to unsubscribe with one-click) and asking us to amend our records. Some send these change of email address messages to 30+ companies all in the TO: field. Do they really think that we have the time to manually amend their details! We don't and if we don't British Gas and BT certainly don't either!
To avoid getting blacklisted we follow clearly defined procedures for these mass emails and have to pay a company to send the email and manage the process so that recipients can unsubscribe, each newsletter CLEARLY states at the top ' DO NOT REPLY TO THIS EMAIL' but that doesn't stop a few hundred each month!</RANT> _________________ Darren Griffin |

Did you here that George W. Bush was approached by one if his aids the other day and told....."Sir, there have been two Brazilian soldiers killed in Iraq". George 'Thick' W. Bush replies...."That is terrible news, how many exactly is a brazillion ?" _________________ Tommo...

Two jokes in one day - was it quiet on the roads today officer?
I liked the both by the way and the one above wouldn't have been half as funny if you didn't think it would really happen _________________ Andy

My mind is full of worthless jokes and drivel, however I only remember them when something I see triggers the old memory. Perhaps I should start a 'Jokes & Humour' thread. Some people just need to post as usual as they are naturally witty. I am more sarcastic. There is a very thin line between wit and sarcasm. _________________ Tommo...

Quote: | I agree with Darren and GJF, maybe this is in danger of becoming a bit too successful and overwhelming the rest of the forum.
I find myself wanting to read the Off Topic Area separately to the rest of the website. |
I always used to go to the View posts since last vist, and after trying to give advice, or learning something new, I'd leave the site. Since having the Off Topic forum it's View posts since last visit - Off topic forum and then BACK to main forums, where I always find other posts which I would have missed had I disappeared. The only problem now is, I go back and forth between the two and spend more time than I used to. |

I agree to some extent with what you're saying.
Part of the 'problem' is that sometimes, there's not much going on in the GPS world and rather than sitting thinking "nothing much here", we're finding things to talk about.
However, on the plus side, I think that this is giving members an opportunity to 'let their hair down' and get to know each other better without the threat of running off topic and getting sidetracked elsewhere.
I quite enjoy these off-topic conversations, but think that the novelty will wear off soonish and leave us with a smaller amount of new messages to wade through...then, this could be one of those rare occasions when I'm wrong _________________ Andy

I agree. Sometimes intended 'humour' in the usual forums can be taken as an insult. With the off topic forums, most of it is humourous (whether by design or by result) and it makes for quite entertaining reading.
I don't think that this will stop people reading the serious stuff, but in fact give members more of a picture of the background of others, which might in turn influence how they interpret postings.
Plus. After a rotten day at work, we can all do with cheering up ! _________________ Tommo...

When I next change my signature for another go at him, this will look pretty odd, won't it? I might change "über" to "in der". _________________ Dennis
