What?
Sorry stargate but I don't quite understand that. Are you saying 'ooh! Isn't it awefully busy in this new off topic forum. Is this some sort of record, and is it here to stay'. :D _________________ Dom

I don't know about a zillion years, but at least a little while will do. I just can't commit to that kind of time scale. _________________ Dom

It's still 'on probation' but we are looking at a way to remove the 'Off Topic' forum from the Hot Topics list.
We have no problem with the discussions but we're a GPS Website and we don't want the ramblings here to be listed as our Hottest Topics! _________________ Darren Griffin |

Penguins don't like it in Devon either but you're obviously not complaining! _________________ Dom

This is now the busiest part of the forum and you refer to it as ramblings. I think it goes to show how opressed we were! After giving us a bit of freedom the flood gates have opened. Besides I noticed your name here alot too! :D _________________ Dom

As I say, I was for the creation of this forum area and participate but it is not our raison d'etre. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I presume that what you are saying is, that if the "Off Topic" is too popular, as against posts on technical problems, when an outsider puts pgpsw in Google he could end up on a page discussing "Off Topic" rubbish, which could put him/her off the site.
If that's the case i can see where you are coming from! _________________ TomTom Go 60

Yes indeed, if you visit the 'Hot Topics' link there are 10 entries for the Off Topic area. We normally use this in our Newsletter but clearly we can't if half the hot topics are nothing to do with GPS.
As I say, nothing against the conversations here but we do want to stop them from giving a false impression of what the site is about and swamping the topic searches. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I agree with Darren and GJF, maybe this is in danger of becoming a bit too successful and overwhelming the rest of the forum. I find myself wanting to read the Off Topic Area separately to the rest of the website.
I seen to remember that other forums had a way to subscribe/unsubscribe certain areas so that the user has to manually subscribe to it in their profile to be able to view it in the "Posts since last seen". I guess that this doesn't help much because if one subscribed then they would still see all the posts... _________________ Gone fishing! |

I guess if members have a technical problem or want some information on gps they will have a gander at the forums, see what ever they need to see then come over to off topic to have a chat.
I think its good for members to have somewhere to go to talk about other stuff other than sat nav systems or other technical stuff. |

If we can remove it from the Hot Topics index then that should suffice. _________________ Darren Griffin |
