|
|
I was looking on ebay and there is a person selling maps of european countries on SD cards that he says will work in a Nuvi (I have a 300). Price is around £15 - £20 per country.
I have two questions...
1. Is this in any way real and will work properly? (He does have lots of good feedback)
2. If it is real, why can I only find these maps on ebay.. who makes them originally do you reckon?
Link to one example:

I don't wanna get ripped off, but it is tempting as I don't need maps for all of europe.
Thanks[/b] |

Having the maps are one thing, having the unlock code to use the maps is another all together - if an e-bay offer looks to good to be true then it often is either a scam or someone pedling illegal goods when it comes to software or electronic maps etc - Mike |

He said in a private message that the maps didn't require unlocking. I'm guessing they are 3rd party maps because he states there is a slight difference between his and the garmin ones.. just no idea who makes them (if anyone).. |

Not that I have a need for these maps (I have full European mapping, and don't intend to drive in the US anytime soon), but what information do the maps show in the Map / About screen - ie where is he getting these maps from? _________________ Please don't be offended if I do not reply to a PM - please ask questions via the forums. |

Does mgna stand for Metro Guide North America (presumably made routable with Metrowizz or similar)? |

I have an i3 and am going to Florida later in the year. Can anyone who has used one of these "ebay maps" actually confirm that this works ok. Is it as good as using a genuine Garmin map? Is there full zip code search on it? Have you actually used one of these maps in Florida?
Cheers. |

Well, as I have said before, I have it on a card & somewhat to my suprise it does seem to work.
Haven't yet used it in Florida but I can insert the card & then on maps scroll to Florida, zoom in ,select a point & get directions to it. Also seems to accept valid zip codes 8)
Have to say I was a bit dubious but it looks like it is going to work over there, proof of the pudding will be in the eating, as they say
I certainly wasn't going to pay the silly money for the garmin USA maps when all I wanetd was Florida |

tonikeys wrote: | Is it as good as using a genuine Garmin map? | Let's just clarify here - technically it is a Garmin map, it's just designed for a different unit. More importantly, the "7" is important - Garmin are now upto version 9 (actually called 2008) of their maps, so the data is a couple of years old now.
So, the big issue is more likely the age of the maps, than whether they work (which I suspect they will for the units he lists). _________________ Please don't be offended if I do not reply to a PM - please ask questions via the forums. |

We've received the following message from the Marketing Manager, EMEA Cartography Garmin (Europe) Ltd: "The maps are in infringement of our rights. We have complained to eBay and all posting about those maps have been removed." |
